There are many ways in Photoshop to convert a color image to black and white.

Now we will show the 4 most popular ways.

Open your photo in Photoshop.

Let's start by introducing you to two of the easiest ways to convert to black and white.

1 - function Grayscale(grayscale)

2 - function discolor(Desaturation)

We do not argue, these are the most simple ways but the quality is not the best. Here the contrast is very low, the image is slightly hazy.

Let's show with an example:

1. Grayscale

Image - Mode - Grayscale(Image - Mode - Grayscale)

Very simple, right?

2. Discolor

Image - Correction - Desaturate(Image - Adjustments - Desaturate)

Quick and easy - but the image contrast is very low, the image looks dull and flat. Not at all what we are striving for. What we especially like about high quality b&w photos - so it's depth and high contrast. Alright - it's time to introduce you to some more serious techniques!

3. Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer

The method we are going to tell you about is to use multiple adjustment layers. Hue/Saturation. This means that you can return to the original view at any time. Plus, you are NOT modifying the original image. Now go to the menu Layers - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation(Layers - New Adjustment layer - Hue / Saturation).

Leave all layer properties unchanged. Change the layer blend mode from Ordinary(Normal) on Chroma(Color).

Then add another adjustment layer Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation) - but this time move the slider in the layer properties Saturation(Saturation) to -100.

So get ready... This is what the image looks like now:

Now the fun begins! Double click on the first adjustment layer you made, or just open the properties. And now the slider Color tone(Hue) Move to this position until you are satisfied with the resulting effect. You can also work with Saturation ( Saturation ) .

These are the settings we used to get the image you see below. Now it looks much better, although it still seems that something is missing...

Now for this newly created layer, change the blending mode from Chroma(Color) on overlap(Overlay) and scale it down a bit. Opacity(Opacity), in our case up to 65%.

Here's what happened now. The contrast has increased markedly. No detail is lost, giving depth to the image.

Note that each image requires an individual approach. What suits this image may not suit yours. So don't be afraid to experiment with settings, layers and modes on your own :)

4. Channel mixing

The last way you'll learn about in this tutorial is to use an adjustment layer. mixingchannels(Channel Mixer). With the original image active, go to the menu Layers - New Adjustment Layer - Channel Mixer(Layers - New Adjustment Layer - Channel mixer).

When this window appears, check the box next to the function Monochrome(Monochrome).

And now adjust the shades of black and white simply by moving the sliders that correspond to the red (red), green (green), and blue (blue) colors of the image. Important: try to keep the total number of values around 100 to avoid blurry areas in your image. We set the red and green channels to 0 and the blue to 100. This gives the skin an intense black and white tone.

Final step: duplicate the adjustment layer. Then change the blend mode from Ordinary(Normal) on overlap(Overlay) and reduce Opacity(Opacity), for example, for this image it turned out 44% - but often it is necessary to lower it to 20-30%. Look - below is the result of our labors.

It's a very atmospheric image. Looking forward to your impressions. We hope this article has given you a lot of useful information.

See you in the next lesson!

HOW TO DO BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO COLORED IN PHOTOSHOP

Today we will learn how to turn a non-color photo into a color one. I’ll make a reservation right away, for those who are looking for the “make photo in color” button in this article. Alas, such a button has not yet been invented. You can desaturate a photo with one click, but you can’t colorize it with the same click, because a black and white photo has no color information. So we have to work with our hands and fill our black and white image with color information in the most direct sense. Some plugins for Photoshop do a good job of colorizing photos, but now we will not discuss any plugins that we don’t understand where to get. Let's talk about what is available for colorization in Photoshop itself. And there is a lot in it.

The method of coloring a photo is simple and primitive. A five-year-old child can master it in 10 minutes. I will tell you about all the ways to colorize a photo, and also show how this simple operation can be brought to a new more professional level. So let's get started.

THE EASIEST WAY TO MAKE A PHOTO COLORED (blend color)

To colorize a photo you will need to be able to use the tool brush tool, as well as have an idea about the work of other Photoshop tools. The ability to select areas of a photo and the initial knowledge about layers and masks, which you can learn from my article Masks in Photoshop, will not hurt. In this tutorial, you will see in practice how you can automate work in Photoshop using masks, and have full control over the color settings.

I borrowed a photo from the collection of a photographer friend of mine. Black and white photographs look mysterious and conceptual, but what happens if we lightly colorize it? Create a new layer on top of the photo Layer > New > Layer or click on the little layer icon in the layers palette Windows > Layers

Now select a tool brush tool, a brush with soft edges, make it bigger and move the mouse over a new layer with some red. The natural result is a red daub on a masterfully taken photograph. It doesn't suit us. In order for the red color to be painted, you need to change the settings of the layer itself. These settings are called overlay settings. Color Mode. You can only find them in the layers palette. Layers, above the layers themselves. Click on this drop down menu and you will see a whole list of different blend modes. The point is that by changing the blending mode of a color, we establish new rules by which the color of the layer interacts with the colors of the layers below. The blend mode we need is called color, and its meaning is simple - it colors the image in the color we need, while maintaining the naturalness of the colors. Install Let's Decide color, choose the color you need, and decorate the girl's hair.

That's all. Quite simple isn't it? Save me the trouble of stretching this process out over 10 pages and demonstrating how I will step by step paint the skin, gloves, eyes, and so on. Coloring depends on your imagination, and realism, on the quality of work and the naturalness of the selected colors. Work with the brush, choose the size, adjust the invisibility opasity and fill, which you will find in the brush settings menu Windows > Options

This is the “mask” my wife sketched for a few minutes of work. Note that the layer blending mode is Normal. I hope you are convinced that making a color photo in Photoshop is very simple.

And this is what happens if you change the layer blending settings to color.

COLORING A PHOTO THROUGH LAYER STYLES (layer style)

And now let's start to go deeper and complicate the process. Complication, it is not to make work more difficult, but to make work easier. You know, all these kali mali on one layer are fine, of course, but they are more suitable for creative personalities, for those who like to sit and wind a clay pot on a gurney for hours. Smearing one color and another on this layer is perhaps convenient for artists from the academy who are banned from Google, so they still have not heard about Photoshop. Alas, even cartoons are drawn on a computer, 1000 drawings on paper, which are then quickly flipped over, remained in the 20th century. Personally, as a designer, I would like to have more control over color and settings. I would like to effectively and quickly tweak the colors through the menu, rather than redrawing the layer.

How can we bring more control over the image? To begin with, it would be nice to divide one layer into several layers. Let's create
really many layers. And each layer will be responsible for its own area. Create a layer "hair", layer "eyes", "gloves", "nails" and others. I started coloring the photo myself, creating thematic layers for this. Now the control process is more manageable, at least the coloring is not on the same layer. Any part of the coloring can be muted, turned off, in other words, do everything with it that can be done with a layer. Other coloring layers will remain untouched.

But it still doesn't make much sense. The color of all layers is still arbitrary. On the layer "Hair" you can paint as before with both blue and red. In other words, as before, Kali Mali, but more manageable Kali Mali, divided into sectors. And I would like to control the color. I want to change the entire color with one click, and not sculpt with a brush, constantly reworking the result with my hands. I'll show you how to do it with layer styles. layer style.

Create a layer and name it "Hair". Decorate your hair with any color, even green. Go to the layers palette and set the fill Fill on the 0% Thus, what you have drawn will become invisible.

Roughly speaking, we create some kind of raster area, turn off the filling fill and apply layer styles to the area. The area itself does not become invisible, as is the case with Opasity. The content of the region becomes invisible, but not the region itself. Therefore, the applied layer styles will be visible. But if we set the Opasity to 0%, the entire layer would become invisible along with the styles. We will define areas certain style, but since we still have to apply layer blending for coloring, the original color must be removed by setting Fill to 0%, otherwise it will become translucent when blending and we will not get the desired result.

Now let's add a style to the layer. Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay In the blend menu blend mode set the mode color. And in the box with the color, set the color we need.

If you forgot to set the fill to 0%, then this can be done in the same window, in the blending settings tab Blending Options. If you did it in the layers palette Layers, then the fill will already be set as it should.

Now we have full control over the color. Give each layer its own style. Double-clicking on the layer will automatically bring up Layer Styles, where you can change the color of the hair with one click. You don't have to smear everything 100 times, the color changes in one second, while you see the result in on-line mode. Choosing a color just got a whole lot easier.

That's what I call color control. Now let's go even deeper.

COLORING PHOTOS THROUGH FILL LAYERS (fill lyers)

You know what I think. These attempts to control the image are certainly cool, but somehow difficult. What if you need to change the color? You have to constantly click on the layer, call the style window, go to the tab color overlay and change something. Not such a fast process if you want to quickly change the colors of the layers. Of course, if we have 2 layers, this is not difficult, but what if we had 102 layers? We need to make this process even easier. This is where the real work with layers comes in. Now I'll show you how to make a photo color using fill layers.

Create a new fill layer Layers > New Fill Layers > Solid Color The fill layer completely covers the photo, filling the entire work surface. We just don't need this. As you can see from the layers palette, the fill layer is created with an empty mask ready. We need to turn the white mask into a black mask in order to hide the entire fill layer entirely. You can click on the mask icon and select Delete.

Or select the mask icon and do the same from the menu Layer > Layer Mask > Delete. Now create a mask from scratch, but not empty, but hiding. We did this in my article "Masks in Photoshop". Select Layer > Layer Mask > Hide All

And you can go the other way. The mask is the same working surface as the layer itself. The mask can be drawn by hand with any drawing tool. For example with a brush brush tool. Only unlike the layer, the mask is created in gradation from black to white, where white is the visible part, and black is the hiding part. Click on the mask icon in the layer palette. The mask must be selected so that you can draw on it. Then select the fill bucket Paint Bucket Toll and black color. Click on the work surface. The empty mask has become a concealing mask.

Now choose a regular brush brush tool and white color. Create a hair mask by painting on top of the mask exactly as you did.
draw on a layer. You can enjoy all the benefits of brush settings. Make it transparent, resize, soft edges. All this will only affect how visible our mask is. And of course don't forget to set it to blend mode. color to immediately see the result of painting. We could go the other way. For example, leave the mask white, and paint over the entire area around the hair with black. But you must admit, it is somewhat tedious to gloss over 70% working area. And of course don't forget to work on the mask, the mask must be selected. This can be done by simply clicking on its icon in the layers palette.

As a result, you should get a fill layer, with a hair mask. The advantage of this method is that you do not have to dig into the color settings every time, which is not clear where. One simple click on the fill of the layer brings up a window with a choice of color.

Paint other areas of the photo in the same way. In some areas where color does not tolerate soft transitions, you will need to create selection areas. For example, in the case of nails, I created selections with the tool Magic WandTool and Polygonal Lasso Toll. In other cases, I managed to change the size of the brush and switch between soft edges and hard edges.

Once you've created all the photo area layers, you'll be able to create other tint layers that create hair tones, shimmers, and other lighting effects. That's what it is professional result. And now let's look at alternative options for coloring a photo.

MAKE PHOTO COLOR THROUGH CORRECTION LAYERS (adjustments layers)

Here's another way to color your photo. Use color correction settings adjustments. I already imagine how you open familiar to everyone Image > Adjustments, highlight the area and apply the effects. No, we certainly won't do that. We will get the same kalya mala. Of course, selecting an area, applying color correction, selecting a new area, applying color correction again is an option. Only this option is dull, without any possibility to tweak and change the results.

Therefore, we will use color-correcting layers. Layer > New Adjustment Layer. The color correction layer is the same color correction, only it is not applied to the graphics layer, but is a layer itself. Imagine that the photo is our layer. And on top we put red glass, which changed the color of the photo. The red glass is the color correction layer. You can remove it, make it invisible, apply layers, mask and more.

Which of the color corrections are suitable for coloring? In my opinion, color correction works best. Photo Filter. Select Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Photo Filter Or create a color correction layer via the layers palette menu Layers.

Now I want you to do all the things I described for coloring photos through fill layers. Create a mask, fill it with black and with a regular brush apply a filter to the area you need. Here is what you should get:

At the same time, you can reconfigure the filter color, change the color and adjust the mask at any time. Just click on the color correction layer and in the palette adjustments adjust the color. If you don't know where this palette is located, open it via Windows > Ajustments. You'll see for yourself that it's as easy to colorize a photo through color correction as it is through fill layers, but I personally like the latter.

I hope that there is no need to demonstrate phased coloring. You already understood that in a similar way you need to colorize all areas of the photo. I will give the final version of the photo coloring and wish you successful experiments in Photoshop. Now you know how to make a photo in color.

Hello, dear readers of my site! Today I will tell you how I add color to b/w photos.

This method is not new and not mine. Once I spied it on YouTube, now I will try to repeat it. During the campaign, I am sometimes asked to add color to old black and white photographs. This was the reason to write this article on the transfer of b / w images to color.

How to colorize a black and white photo in photoshop

1. First we need the original photo. I took a photo from the article "". There she is:

2. Since old photographs are often digitized using a conventional scanner, they acquire a greenish or bluish tint. Therefore, we translate the photo into black and white using Photoshop, more precisely into shades of gray. This is done in several ways, but for this method it is better to do it as follows. Pressing a keyboard shortcut Ctrl+U and drag the slider to the very beginning, as in the screenshot below:

As a result, my photo has changed a bit:

That's it, now we can quickly and easily turn any photo into black and white in Photoshop.

And we give it a flesh color, as I usually start by painting the skin of the face, arms, legs, etc. Initially choose color with code #ffcc99:

Give it a blending mode Color (“Color” in the Russian version of Photoshop). Who cares that we are doing this mode, then we enter in the google search "Color blending mode". The first couple of articles provide an exhaustive answer. In Photoshop, it is at the very bottom:

4. Now select the brush and color white and paint over the areas that we need to color. At the same time, if you made a mistake and painted over the excess, then change the color of the brush to black and adjust it. As a result, I gave the skin color as follows:

Change the flesh color in the new layer to the one with which we will dye the hair and give color to the hairstyle:

6. Now, step by step, we create layers and give color to all objects in the photo. I painted only the bride, since there are a lot of details in the photo, I will have time to color everything and update the article, but now we are making a color portrait from a black and white portrait of the bride. Paint lips:

7. To give the eyes more expressiveness, I simply created a new layer by pressing the keys Shift+Ctrl+N. Selected tool Brush (Brush) and gave it a color close to black (code #161616 ) and summed up the lines of eyelashes, eyebrows and tinted a fountain pen (actually it is ballpoint or gel, I don’t remember already). As a result, I got this photo and the following layers:

8. For comparison, I post the result of how I did from black and white photography colored with photoshop:

Original black and white photo

Final color photograph

If you have any questions about how to add color to a b/w photo, then ask them in the comments or through the feedback tab.

One of the most familiar themes of turning sepia into color is The Wizard of Oz.

Translator's note: we are talking about the film "The Wizard of Oz", the film begins in sepia, and then colors appear, which was unique for the cinema of that time.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to colorize a sepia photo to get a color image.

Colorizing a sepia or black and white photo can seem like a real challenge, and it can take time and patience, although it can be a lot easier than you think. Today I will show you the process of coloring a photo in Adobe program Photoshop.

Final result:

Raw Materials

The image I'm going to use in this tutorial is shown in the screenshot below:

Note: photo taken from http://www.loc.gov/

In my opinion, black and white photography is much easier to work with than sepia, so the first thing I did was to convert the photo. This is just my personal preference and you don't have to do it, if you want to and you like working with sepia, then work with sepia.

Translator's note: The author has converted a sepia photo to black and white using the correction black and white(BlackandWhite).

1. Select the desired image mode

Once you've uploaded a photo, you'll need to make sure the image mode is set to RGB, not on the mode Grayscale(Grayscale), even if your image is monochrome or black and white. To check the mode, for this we go Image - Mode(Image > Mode), now look for the RGB mode to be checked.

2. Begin to colorize large fragments of the image

Step 1

With a tool Quick Selection(Quick Select tool), select the sky or any other large area of the image that is represented by a single color hue.

With a tool Quick Selection(Quick Select tool), select a part of the image that is represented by a single color, such as the sky.

Step 2

Click the button Refine Edge(Refine Edge).

Use the tool Refine Edge(Refine Edge) to improve the borders of the selection.

Step 3

In the tool settings window that appears Refine Edge(Refine Edge), check the box Smart radius(Smart Radius). I changed the Radius value to 5 px, but you can set the Radius to another value that works best with your image. I also increased the value smooth out(Smoth) up to 3 pixels to soften hard edges. You can also apply other settings of this tool to improve the borders of the selection. When you're ready, click the 'OK' button.

Choose the right value for Smart radius(Smart Radius) as well as for the option smooth out(Smooth).

Step 4

So, we have created an active selection, now press the button Add New Adjustment Layer(Add New Adjustment Layer) at the bottom of the layers palette and in the window that appears, select the option Color(Solid Color).

Add an Adjustment Layer Color(Solid Color) through the bottom of the layers palette.

Step 5

Choose the color shade that you think best matches the sky in your image. Now it doesn't matter if you chose a color that is too bright or not, we will fix it in a minute. Once you've chosen a color hue, hit the 'OK' button and you'll see the selection on the adjustment layer mask.

Choose the right color shade.

Step 6

Change the blend mode to overlap(Overlay) and the selected color will look much better. If you are not satisfied with the selected color, then simply double-click on the blue rectangle next to the mask to open a window Color palettes(Color Picker), select the color shade that best suits you.

Change the blend mode to overlap(Overlay).

Step 7

If you're happy with the result, you can restore the missing parts of the image or fix them with a soft black/white brush that you can apply on the mask of the adjustment layer.

Fix the defects left after the selection.

3. Select fragments that have similar color tones

Step 1

Repeat the selection technique detailed in the previous steps, this time select the carrot greens and the watermelon. Do not select the cucumber yet, so that we do not have all the elements of the same shade of green. This time I changed the meaning smooth out(Smooth) up to 2 px when refining the edges, but again, use whatever values work best for you.

Apply tool Refine Edge(Refine Edge) to carrot greens.

Step 2

Keeping the active selection still, add a new adjustment layer Color(Solid Color), just like you did before, select a shade of green. On the this moment, save the degree Opacity(O pacity) for each adjustment layer at 100%. This can be corrected later when we finish painting.

Add a New Adjustment Layer Color(Solid Color), choose a shade of green.

Step 3

Change the blend mode to overlap(Overlay), and then select the appropriate color shade. Do the same for the cucumber but use a different shade of green. Once you've finished painting the vegetables, we'll move on to painting the skin.

Change the blend mode to overlap(Overlay).

Result so far.

4. Skin tone and eyes

Step 1

Color the man and woman separately, because it doesn't look like they have the same skin tone. The man may have slightly more weathered skin!

Select the skin areas using the selection technique you used earlier, and apply edge refinement as well. Next, when you press the ‘OK’ button, press the ‘Q’ key to enter the quick mask(Quick Mask) and then using a brush, paint over the eyes of the man, as well as other areas of the image of the man to which you do not want to add a skin tone. Press the 'Q' key again and you will see that the areas that were colored red are not included in the selection created.

By using quick mask(Quick Mask), select any small areas that you do not want to include in the created active selection.

Step 2

When choosing a skin tone, try applying multiple color tones to see which color tone works best, but be aware that due to the blend mode overlap(Overlay), the color tones will not look truly 'true'. So use a very muted pink/brown shade instead of peach, otherwise you end up with orange glow skin!

Choose pale pink or light brown shades instead of peach.

Step 3

To color the eyes, add a new adjustment layer. Color(Solid Color) without first creating any active selection, select a color tint. Click on the mask of the adjustment layer, and then press the keys (Ctrl + I) to invert the mask. Now with a white brush, paint over the eyes on the mask. If you can't see the man's eyes behind glasses, decrease the value Opacity(Opacity) adjustment layer to 40%, thus adding just a slight tint of color.

If you are coloring a photo where you can see the eyes, then remember that you need to paint over only the pupils of the eyes.

Add an Adjustment Layer Color(Solid Color) without first creating an active selection

We have finished adding skin tones.

5. Lips and hair

Step 1

Once you've finished painting the skin and eyes, we can add some highlights by painting the lips with a slightly different shade. Select a red/brown color and also use a low opacity brush to add some color.

When coloring the lips, use a slightly different color shade than the skin tone.

Step 2

When dyeing hair, try to pay attention to the color tone of the hair in the photo in order to find a more suitable color shade, even if it is a sepia or black and white photograph. For the man's hair, I used a dark shade, reducing opacity(Opacity) of the layer to 90% to soften the tone of the hair a little, because. Obviously the man is old. As for the woman, it doesn't look like she has dyed hair, so I used a dark gray color.

Choose a natural hair color and keep age in mind when choosing a hair color.

6. Finishing touches

Finally, color the clothes. Once you've finished coloring the image, play with the opacity of the coloring layers to make the image look more natural.

Remember one rule: less is more, and if you're going to recreate a "down-to-earth" look, be more pragmatic about your color choices, keeping in mind the colors that were worn at the time, and use low saturation to give the image an "old" look. Photo. If you want to be eccentric in your choice of color, then forget what I just told you - just go and do it!

We colorized the image, but the colors look too harsh.

Congratulations! We have completed the lesson!

When choosing old photographs to colorize, keep in mind that the more detail there is in the photo, the more time and the more difficult it will be to colorize the photo. Try to choose photos with large presence fragments of the same color first, and then move on to more complex photos, because. it will be easier for you to apply this technique. This is a truly exciting process, so I wish you a pleasant time coloring photos.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

You will need

  • To perform the operations of this instruction, it is desirable that you be at least basicly familiar with Adobe Photoshop: you know what layers and layer masks are, you know how to use a brush and other basic tools of this program.

Instruction

To add color to an image - the color of a black and white or faded photograph, to color or recolor a pencil drawing or a solid color, etc. – special technical costs and complex operations are not required. It is enough to open the original image in Adobe Photoshop, create a new layer on top of the base image and, setting it to Color mode, apply fragmentary areas of the required colors to it. You can do this with a brush or other program tools. The original image in the right places will acquire the desired color scheme.
Of course, the hardest part is actually getting the color layer right, especially if you want to achieve the most photorealistic image.

To begin with, let's analyze: we will study the original image and mentally try to divide it into more or less large fragments, the color inside of which should be fairly uniform. These are, for example, objects made of the same material, or objects that have a completely predictable combination of colors, solid arrays - foliage, grass, walls, floors, etc. The main thing is that the colors inside such a fragment obey a single simple law: dark, shadow areas tend to one color, areas of medium illumination have their own approximately the same shade, and light areas have their own.
For each such homogeneous fragment, you can create your own color layer that describes the necessary pattern.
First of all, let's create a layer mask so that the coloring action only applies to the desired fragment of the original image. For example, let's trace the outline of an object with the Lasso tool. After finishing the selection, create a new Gradient Map layer (Menu Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Gradient Map). In the layers panel, set the blend mode switch of the created layer to Color.
Let's start creating a spectrum. On the left in the gradient there will be colors responsible for the dark areas of the image, on the right - for the light ones. If you have a good visual memory and artistic taste, colors can be chosen "by eye", however, a pre-prepared photograph will greatly facilitate the work, the nature of the image in which is similar to the one being recreated. In this sample, already ready-made the main combinations of colors will be presented, therefore, the colors of the gradient can simply be typed with an eyedropper tool from the sample. One way or another, we select the color and location of the markers on the gradient, visually controlling how plausible the result is.

You can create as many layers as you need. Each layer in the layer list above can overlap layers below it, and if the layer masks overlap, then the top layer will be critical in rendering the color cast. Therefore, you can go initially from painting large spaces, to the subsequent creation of smaller color fragments, overlaying new color combinations on smaller and smaller details, creating new and new layers on top.
Of course, layer masks can be created not only by tracing objects along the path. The mask can simply be painted with a black or white brush, respectively, adding or excluding the areas of effect of the color layer. In order to “draw on the mask”, you must first click the cursor on the rectangle on the right - a schematic representation of the mask - in the line of the desired layer on the Layers panel (Layers).
It is very convenient that each created layer can be re-edited at any time, change the colors of the spectrum - just double-click on the line of the layer in the list of the layer in the list of the Layers panel (Layers), and proceed to modify the gradient. Also, the mask of each layer can be erased, corrected, painted over, or even re-created.

Having painted large homogeneous areas of the image in this way, we proceed to the next stage - the stage of manual finishing. This requires observation and logic. The fact is that even identically painted surfaces that have a completely uniform color never look uniform in real optical conditions. Light falls on each surface: direct - from light sources, reflected - from nearby surfaces, in addition, when the observer looks at different angles, the same color tone looks different. Therefore, in addition to color gradients - tending to "flatten" surfaces, because with this method of coloring, the volume and location in space are not taken into account - we will create additional color layers that correct them.
For example, in the proposed picture, the color of the light column in the upper part will gravitate towards blue, because next to it is a large blue wall, the reflected cold color of which will surely fall on the column and illuminate it, changing the color shade. The lower part of the column closer to the floor will take on the reflected tones of orange highlights from the parquet.
To show this in our work, just above the Gradient Map layer that defines the base color of the column, create a new clean layer (Layer>New Layer menu), and set it to Color blend mode. On it with a soft translucent brush, carefully apply the necessary spots - a cold shade at the top, a warm orange at the bottom. You can also play along with brown reflexes from a nearby walnut table. By adjusting the parameter Opacity (Transparency) of the created layer, you can reduce and increase the influence of the adjustment layer on the image.
Another law, where there is less illumination - the colors are more faded, where there is more light, in addition to the actual brightness of the image, the color saturation itself will be an order of magnitude higher. This, for example, must be taken into account when giving color to the floor: in the proposed illustration, in the shady areas, the reddish color of the parquet will look more faded. And in the darkest places, the colors of all surfaces can have an almost indistinguishable color tone from each other.
Particular attention should be paid to human skin. First of all, the skin absorbs glare very well, therefore, for example, for a standing character, the side of the face that faces the column will be of a much colder shade than the one on which the light from the red curtain falls. In addition, the skin itself is rarely even in color - the cheeks are usually a warmer shade than the skin around the eyes, the exposed areas are tanned, blood vessels will be visible through thin skin, etc. Therefore, work on skin color is always very painstaking, but with sufficient observation, with a little practice, you can easily achieve a completely plausible result.

It is recommended to save the final image in two different formats. Firstly, in the format of the Abode Photoshop program, where information about all created layers will be saved, which will make it possible to further modify and supplement the image. And secondly, in a commonly used format, such as JPEG, for quick viewing, and other operations with the file, in which there is no need for layer-by-layer editing. This can be done through the File>Save As menu, specifying the file format, its name and storage location on disk. And in a format suitable for transport on the Internet, it is easy to save the image through the File>Save for Web menu.
