Oriental New Year– what do we mean by this concept?
The next Chinese New Year will begin on February 5, 2019. The traditional New Year in China is timed to the winter new moon and always falls on one of the dates between January 21 and February 21 according to the Gregorian calendar.

Chinese New Year

2019 will be the Year of the Yellow (Brown) Earth Pig. This animal is highly revered in China. The pig symbolizes family happiness and wealth. Previously, pork was only on the tables of rich people. The pig represents kindness, gentleness, peacefulness and patience....

Chinese New Year has gained the most notoriety among adherents of the "normal", January New Year for several reasons:

To the delight of manufacturers of gifts for the New Year, in China, since ancient times, the so-called twelve-year “animal or animal” cycle has been used for reckoning. This immediately made it possible to add to the images of Santa Claus and Santa Claus symbolic images of a dozen species of animals on any kind of gifts and souvenirs by January 1.

Another reason for the Chinese New Year's fame in the "Western" world was the presence of large Chinese communities in most metropolitan areas from Vancouver and New York to Paris and Sydney. All immigrants from China strive to get to the Celestial Empire on New Year's Eve in order to spend this holiday with their relatives. This forces many employers to grant vacations to their Chinese as well as Vietnamese employees during the Eastern New Year celebration.
In 2018, Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 5th.

2019 will be the year of the Pig (element - earth, color - yellow). According to Chinese reckoning, the year 4717 will come. The Year of the Pig will last until January 25, 2020.

But, calling the Chinese calendar eastern, we are mistaken. Indeed, in many eastern countries of the world they celebrate their new year, celebrating it in a completely different way.

New Year in April

celebrated by residents of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Kampuchea (Cambodia) and Laos.

The New Year in Southeast Asia is an act of spiritual cleansing in anticipation of the end of the dry season. People take Buddha images out of temples to bathe them in fragrant water. Groups of people on the streets pour water on each other.

New Year in India

the second most populous country in the world, you can celebrate almost all year round. The assertion that there are many more holidays in India than there are days on the calendar is not fiction at all, but pure truth. New Year's Day in India falls in March or April in most states. Also, in many families in India, January 1, the Muslim new year and holidays are celebrated on lunar calendar.

Muslim New Year

The year 1440 for Muslims began on September 11, 2018 and will last until September 1, 2018. The first day of the month of Muharram is not included in the number of official holidays of Islam and, accordingly, in most Muslim countries, the New Year is not celebrated as a holiday in its secular sense. But on this day, in all the mosques of the world, including Russian ones, a sermon dedicated to the Hijra is read. The Muslim New Year is calculated according to the lunar calendar, which is 10-11 days shorter than the solar calendar. Therefore, every year Islamic holidays are postponed and do not have a specific date in the modern secular calendar.

Rosh Hashanah - Jewish New Year

celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of the Jewish month of Tishrei. From this day begins the countdown of the days of the new Jewish year. This holiday is celebrated in Israel by everyone. On this day, they give each other gifts, send congratulations to those who are far away. Year 5779 will begin on the eve of September 10, 2018 and end on September 29, 2019. This year has 385 days.

So, the traditional New Year, which is celebrated on January 1, is far from being the starting point of the new calendar year. Eastern New Year in most countries is celebrated in spring or autumn.
