Review of the camera Nikon D300 Body.

great model

Experience of use: several months

Advantages:

And what about merit? A professional camera for advanced photographers or budget cut professionals. I would call it a legend in its class, the bottom rung of cropped professional cameras. The Nikon D300 camera showed itself very well when used, is one of the best "crops" from Nikon, in the fight against time, is inferior in some parameters to the newer Nikon D7000. But still, when working at low ISOs - Nikon D300 is a camera, after “communication” with which you don’t want to use something else.
And so about the merits:
- price in the secondary market (second-hand)
- one of the best systems Focusing Multi-CAM 3500DX, which includes 51 focus points. 11 dots for D200 and 51 dots for D300. The difference is almost 5 times
- optical viewfinder covers 100% of the frame
- Burst speed up to 6 (up to 8 with booster) frames per second
- the battery charge of the D300 is enough for 1000-1500 frames
- can save 14bit RAW files
- professional ergonomics in a very high quality case. The body of the camera is moisture and dust protected. The whole body is made of magnesium alloy, this affects the weight of the camera (about 1 kg)
- the ability to fine-tune the autofocus lenses
- large monochrome display for quick setup (other cropped cameras have it cut down)
- quick FP sync with external flashes, control of external flashes
- bracketing

Flaws:

It is foolish to look for flaws where they cannot be ... Well, perhaps in inept hands a noisy matrix at ISO over 800. So skill also depends on hands. And in the skillful hands of a photographer who thoughtfully shoots and at higher ISOs, quite high-quality pictures are obtained.

Comment:

A lot of comments can be found on the net about this model, a lot of sensible reviews and tests. On my own behalf, I will only add that this is not just a camera, it is a "Kalashnikov assault rifle"! Reliable! Convenient! Fast! In the hand lies like a glove, once picked up, I no longer wanted to part with it.
Last summer, it was no coincidence that the question of choosing a camera arose after I realized that I "grew out" of the D5000. Fluctuated between D90 and D300. Finances made it possible to buy either a new D90 or D300 camera, but on the secondary market. The choice was obvious. Not in favor of the D90, of course. After weighing all the "pros" and "cons" of buying a used camera, I acquired this miracle of technology with a moderate "mileage" through an acquaintance. And did not regret. From the first moment he became like a family to me. Understanding the menu was not difficult, everything is very intuitive and accessible. Moreover, he already had experience with younger Nikon models. All main functions are placed on the D300 case. No need to constantly crawl into the menu to change any setting or shooting mode.
Many write about the incorrect operation of the white balance. Yes, you just do not know how to work with him, friends! Why do you need Lv mode? BUT? Do not know? Only for macro photography? NO! Switch to the manual balance adjustment mode, more precisely, to the Kelvin adjustment mode. And voila! Check it out! See for yourself!
Somehow, at one of the weddings, I had the opportunity to hold it in my hands and take a few pictures with "Boot" - "pyatak2". Not impressed at all. Compared to the D300, this is just a heavy plastic and squeaky toy for schoolchildren. (May the Boot fans forgive me and I hope they don't throw rotten tomatoes at me) Well, really not a level for such a price. And what's the matter when you take the Nikon D300 in your hands ... The impression is that you have a serious car in your hands, and not just a fotik.
My opinion is that this camera is one of the best cameras of the company. Take it, hold it in your hands, take a few pictures. And I'm sure you'll fall in love with her as much as I do!
I wish you all happiness, and of course successful shots!

In handheld mode, the camera uses fast phase focus (mirror up, camera focuses, and mirror down) and slower contrast autofocus, which is used in tripod mode. In order to perfectly focus on sharpness, it is possible to enlarge part of the frame. The increase is divided into 7 steps and ends with a maximum increase to a ratio of 1:1.

All menu settings, as well as all custom camera settings, can be saved as profiles (menu banks) and named. This is very convenient for multi-purpose use of the camera and allows you to prepare for shooting in a minimum of time by simply loading a saved bank. The HELP button, which displays a text explanation for the selected item, greatly helps in mastering the menu.

The camera performs well in all modes. And although the automatic operation of the exposure did not cause any complaints, you have the opportunity to fit into the histogram even better: thanks to the Active D-Lighting function, the camera makes exposure compensation so as not to knock out the light, providing the camera with a better hit in the histogram. D-lighting settings can now also be assigned by the camera itself, and for lovers of soft tonal transitions, there is an even more powerful value - Extra High.

Shooting with Active D-Lighting slightly increases the recording time of a picture on the memory card and significantly reduces the burst buffer. A simple D-Lighting is also available through the menu, which optimizes the dynamic range after shooting, programmatically. In addition, there is a custom Picture Control that allows you to adjust settings such as sharpness, contrast, brightness, saturation, and tone. You can also apply filter and toning effects to your liking.

Up to 72 pictures can be displayed simultaneously in playback mode. Information about captured frame divided into several pages and includes information about the file, general information(color space, vignetting correction, white balance settings, etc.), GPS data, brightness histogram and RGB channels. Therefore, it is not difficult for the photographer to obtain comprehensive information about the footage without using a computer.

Images are also convenient to delete - you just need to click the delete button again; in Canon cameras, pictures are deleted in the same way, only you need to turn the wheel to confirm, which is frankly annoying if you need to delete several pictures in a row.

Digital camera, 13.10 megapixels, maximum resolution 4288x2848, sensor size: 23.6 x 15.8 mm, reflex viewfinder (TTL), interchangeable lens, manual shutter speed/aperture, manual white balance, TIFF, RAW, CompactFlash card support, CompactFlash II, 3" LCD, frame rate: 8 fps, 825 g

  • Purchase time: December 2018
  • Strengths: 1. Grip body, a lot of controls, quick change of almost any parameters
    2. Fast and accurate autofocus
  • Weak sides: Is that a relatively low working ISO. 800 fit, 1600 with some reservations.
  • Used analogues: d200, d3000, d3100, Sony a37
  • Comment: As for me, the camera is still relevant today. An excellent working tool, you take it in your hands and you understand that this is a THING!

  • Purchase time: Summer 2017
  • Strengths: 1. Magnesium alloy body (body is strong and relatively heavy)
    2. Shoots fast enough 5fps (can be increased to 8fps)
    3. Manual lens support
    4. 51 focus points
    5. Two free buttons are programmable
    6. Additional monochrome screen (very convenient)
    7. Two wheels (one in the front, the other in the back - very convenient)
    8. Excellent viewfinder with a lot of information (almost 100%)
  • Weak sides: 1. 12MPX is not a sentence! The pixel is bold, but the picture does not suffer. But low ISO is a disaster!
    2. ISO up to 800 maximum! Further, the picture is noisy, losing color and depth.
    3. Rubber bands open, a nightmare!
    4. Dust gets into the viewfinder over time.
    5. Regular 300 only has a CF card.
    6. Low entry on the card, but tolerable.
    7. Over time, the mirror sticks (disease D300 and D700)
  • Used analogues: Nikon D5100
  • Comment: PROLOGUE: How happy I was to get an old Nikon D300! But my feast did not last long! Three days later, the mirror began to stick and away we go .. In any case, buying used equipment is a big lottery. But I can say that the camera is very worthy - the world!

ISO: Despite the low working ISO, you can use it in 2017-2018. But it would be desirable to avoid dark places and it is also desirable to have a fast lens at the same time. You can cross the threshold of 800 units, but the noise will not look very good against the background of bold pixels.

COSMETICS: Rubber bands are Nikon's eternal problem. After the repair, they generally fell off me. Ali has similar gum with a self-adhesive base for 300s. I did not buy, but this is the way out. The paint on the metal case sits well. I carried a camera in a backpack with an umbrella, bottles of water - everything is ok. The buttons are also very rarely erased, the maximum is the proximity button.

MANUAL OPTICS: AI(S) series manual optics are compatible with the camera. Exposure metering works and even aperture values \u200b\u200bare recorded! Plus, in the settings it is possible to set the focal length for the lens, which will later be recorded in EXIF

BREAKDOWN: They write that the problem with mirror sticking is quite common in the D300. They also say that replacing the "Eccentric" solves the problem, but not in my case. The camera was worn twice for repair - the problem was not solved. The run was only 60,000 frames, and the shutter runs 150,000 (declared by the factory), but in fact it runs about 300,000, since the shutter is made of Kivlar. In my case, it was necessary to replace the entire diaphragm drive assembly.

If the mirror sticks sometimes, giving an error (ERR) - this may be due to the battery. Either it is discharged, or it is Chinese. Sometimes the lens crookedly sat down with contacts. If the mirror sticks sometimes, and over time the sticking has only increased, get ready to go to the service. A sticky mirror is eliminated by turning the camera off and on - then by pressing the shutter button.

CONCLUSION: Would I buy this camera today? Not! I am not satisfied with the low working ISO. The rest of the camera performs great. In speed, in accuracy, in reliability! This camera is considered reportage - it shoots quickly and accurately.

TIP: Before buying, set the "machine gun" mode, set a low shutter speed and shoot. Then set a slow shutter speed and shoot again. If the mirror does not stick, you can think about buying.

    Thanks, all the best.

  • Purchase time: 06.07.2013
  • Strengths: Reliable body, good camera arganomics, everything you need is at hand, a huge number of focus points, fast autofocus, the price on the secondary market is already good)
  • Weak sides: So far, I haven’t found them, maybe they don’t)
  • Used analogues: Nikon D90;Nikon D200
  • Comment: The first DSLR was the Nikon D90, everything seems to be fine, but I couldn’t get used to the quality of the picture, somehow grainy, I don’t know that’s not all, I often lied about the white balance, in general I got caught on the occasion of the D200, it was played for a long time with two cameras with the same lenses, I shot it changed it set the same settings and the D200 was pleasantly surprised: the colors do not have that oversaturation of the d90 contrast at ISO up to 800 in terms of noise between the D90 and D200 there is no difference, but in terms of sharpness the D200 was better, in general, I sold the D90 and left the D200 and have never regretted it yet. Well, for the D300 I will say so that this camera united everything best hand D200 and D90 adding more of their own. The camera has never failed, copes with all tasks and hawks all lenses, I work with it when I need speed, and I left the D200 for slow work when I want to shoot just for fun or I need natural colors or a reminder of what film photography is .D300 is a modernized AK47 only for a photo that will still fight :)

  • Purchase time: 2011-2013
  • Strengths: autofocus. "smartness" of the camera. Problem-free. Strong. Viewfinder. Eats a little battery. Gritty. Just pleasant.
  • Weak sides: Probably not. At least I can’t remember offhand that something bothered me. Maybe a little boring menu, but the "user" menu allows you to customize it.
  • Used analogues: D100, D200, Fuji s3 Pro, D3, Canob 550D, 500D
  • Comment: The owner is already the second carcass. What strikes me most about it and pleases me is autofocus. Somehow I took part in the crossbow of photographers - to shoot each other with a camera at the eye. I couldn’t get used to it in any way - I already pointed-focused-pressed, and the people only focus. The camera just really likes the color, speed, flash operation.
But difficult to master. I read the instructions many, many times and consulted on the forums. But now it is like an extension of the eye. And I like it more than D3. Although D3 itself is very enjoyable.

  • Purchase time: 2013
  • Strengths: Excellent working 1005 spot metering,
    51 point fast autofocus,
Ergonomic rubberized body, very comfortable to hold despite the decent weight of the camera
Jpeg chamber chic (and larger) than the cameras are not professional. level - D5000, D90, etc.
  • Weak sides: The focus mode switch is located somewhat unsuccessfully, but I got used to not touching it quickly
  • Used analogues: Nikon D5000; Olympus E-510/E-520
  • Comment: I was looking specifically with the IMX-021 sensor (like the Sony-700), the picture feed is somewhat different from the D5000, D90, D300S which are on the IMX-038 sensor (compared by camera jpeg). I figured out the settings quickly - I didn’t notice the promised difficulties in mastering the D300

  • Purchase time: August 2011
  • Strengths: It's written here. Push:
I liked the display a lot, but I must say, the quality of the display, the sharpness of the picture is sometimes misleading: you shoot with a manual lens and you see - everything is chiki-peaks, but on the computer - it didn’t hit the sharpness a little ... In addition, the picture on the brightness on the display is deceptive - I shot a wedding, the picture on the display suited me (there was no time to look at the histogram), and then I pulled dark frames and crushed the noise. Now the display brightness is turned down to a minimum.
    Another plus is lens alignment.
I liked the detail of the pictures (probably, this is due to 13 megapixels, unlike 6 megapixels in the D50, which I used before).
  • Weak sides: Well, in a nutshell...
It doesn’t work to completely plug the rubber plug, but it shouldn’t be otherwise, as soon as it is dust and moisture protection, and the plug sits very tightly. And personally I don't like using CF cards instead of SD. Yes, here's another thing - you knock down the focus mode switch by chance.
  • Used analogues: Nikon D50
  • Comment: Filmed on the D50, and turned up a used car with a mileage of 9000 for 900 green rubles. The seller, a young boy, makes money by filming in a club, and he also bought it on occasion a year ago, but, as he said, he still couldn’t figure out what and how, and flipped through the instructions and decided to sell it, continuing to shoot on the D60 on the machine . I turned it on, clicked right away and, frankly, I was discouraged by the picture - soap, yellow and overexposure, but I looked at the info - 3200 units costs ISO (well, I didn’t set any parameters, but clicked as it was in this moment on the device). I took it for a day with the condition of an exchange, if that didn’t suit me, and almost immediately went to my friends for an anniversary. I was embarrassed to take the instructions with me (well, I’ll read a book at the table) - I shot it on the D50, I’ll figure it out! And I must say a week before that I took another flash - a 600-week and also didn’t really get into it. And now everyone is knocking with forks, and I'm sitting - twisting the device in the park and thinking what's what. For a long time I could not enter in any way, how to change this same aperture in the aperture priority mode, until I spotted another wheel ahead)). And I must say by the second hour! :) more or less figured out, and intelligible pictures began to turn out. Yes, the device is a beast! (At least after the D50 :), but the drain is everything that even having already experience with an entry-level DSLR, there is something to read in the instructions and where to delve into (by the way, the book is three times thicker than that of the D50). I especially like the ability to adjust the glass. Tokina 28-70 is available, cool glass, but my front focus is crazy. On the D50, I adjusted the carcass myself, taking into account the fact that this will not particularly affect the second staffer - Tamron 17-50 (it is sharp from an open hole and, when shooting landscapes with it, the depth of field at f8 will not suffer much). And right now - I pressed the pimpochka, turned the wheel, chose the lens and - you're done, the alignment is normal! True, the scale had to be taken to the limit during adjustment. And at least I read somewhere on the forum that the adjustment is only on fixes - garbage! still helps a lot...

But what discouraged - CF memory cards instead of SD. I don’t really know how they differ so much (CF in terms of speed, whether they are ahead or in volume, but right now, it seems, everyone has pulled themselves up) and why it was not clear to return to the option used in the D70 - the card (CF) is in size huge, these legs are freaking, which (as it came across in the forums) are often bent. But that would be all right, but the card reader built into the system unit refused to read the card (8GB), the jester knows what does not suit him (they wrote on the forum - there is not enough power, although the card reader is connected to a power USB).

And one more thing: it’s not entirely clear why this 3D focusing is needed - the device itself focuses anywhere (as an example - the average photo with Nikkor 50 f / 1.8 glass. Focused on the hand, dishes, although the frame, it seems to me, took place :)). I don’t shoot on it (on 3D), the spot focus is much more accurate. Or am I missing something?

    Key Features

3.0″ high resolution TFT LCD. Like all professional SLR cameras, the D300s has a 920,000-pixel VGA display. In a camera of this class, instant verification of the result is very important, and it is much easier to evaluate the quality of the image and detail on such a screen than on a display with a resolution of 230,000 pixels. Two years ago, such a display was rare, but now it is not only in such SLR cameras as the Nikon D90 and Canon EOS 500D, but also in some compact cameras Samsung, Ricoh and Sony.

The viewing angles of the screen are about 170°, there is no anti-glare coating. At the same time, the information remains readable even in bright sunlight. The display is not very easily soiled, its protective surface is made of plastic, not tempered glass, as is the case with the Canon EOS 7D. Depending on the ambient light, the background of the LCD screen automatically changes from light to dark. The kit includes a plastic cover that protects the display from dirt.

Kevlar-carbon fiber composite slide. It is worth recalling that body armor is also made from Kevlar, and heavy-duty and lightweight cases are made from carbon fiber. sports cars. So it's no surprise that the D300s has a guaranteed 300,000 shutter actuations. If you really shoot a lot, then in terms of service maintenance the purchase of this camera is more profitable compared to any other professional model.

live view. The D300 was one of the first DSLRs to feature an LCD live view. For the former owners of this camera, the improvements will be obvious, as well as the ability to record video. The fact is that the frequency of broadcasting an image from the D300 matrix was only 15 frames per second, and in the case of the D300s it was 24 frames / s.

Dust and water resistant magnesium alloy body. Since the camera was designed for advanced amateur photographers, resistance to adverse factors environment was given special attention. The assembly of the camera is impeccable, and all controls are protected from dust and moisture by special membranes.

    Appearance and functionality

As mentioned above, the D300s is built with a one-piece magnesium alloy body, which is very light and yet very durable (minor drops will not damage the device). The design of the camera is designed to work in the cold: the buttons are large enough, they are easy to press both with and without gloves. It is noteworthy that the mirror Canon camera The EOS 7D, unlike previous models, also has large buttons, the layout of which is almost the same as in the D300 (the D300s is almost identical to the D300 except for some details).

The camera is very comfortable in the hand. Management is extremely intuitive, so after a few days of working with the device, you won't even think about what to press.

For owners of Nikon SLR cameras, the transition to the D300s will be painless; only former owners of other brands of DSLRs will have to get used to the ergonomics of the camera.

Despite the serious weight, the camera does not feel heavy at all. Even with heavy zooms, the model is comfortable to use and transport, hands practically do not get tired. The case of the device is upholstered with soft rubber, which will protect the expensive device from slipping.

Compared to the D300, the rubber gasket has significantly decreased: it remains only in the place of the influx under the thumb. This is due to the appearance of new buttons for calling the live view mode on the LCD (Live View), the Info button, as well as a new slot for two memory cards.

In addition to the main screen, the camera is equipped with an additional monochromatic LCD display. It is highlighted in green and is designed for quick assessment of shooting parameters - shutter speed, aperture, white balance, ISO settings, exposure compensation and bracketing. Service information about the battery charge (5 divisions), about the recording format and compression ratio, and the number of pictures remaining on the memory card are also displayed there.

The viewfinder on the D300s is 100% frame coverage, large, bright and full of shooting information. By the way, this is one of the few cameras with such a coating (Canon EOS 7D also boasts it).

The info line displays a large number of settings, which can confuse novice photographers. There is an indication of autofocus, metering mode, autoexposure lock, exposure compensation and flash exposure compensation, current shutter speed, aperture, ISO, flash-ready indicator and the number of frames remaining before the buffer is full.

A framing grid is displayed on the viewfinder frame itself, as well as information about a low battery or a full memory card, which will prevent you from taking a bunch of frames to nowhere or staying in the most interesting place without the opportunity to take pictures. By the way, the discharge of the camera, in addition to the divisions on the display, can also be judged by the work of focusing: when the charge level is low, the device focuses slowly, slowly.

Unlike the D300, the D300s has a slot not only for Compact Flash cards, but also for standard SD cards. Cards can be handled in the same way as with : recording as the cards fill up in turn, simultaneous recording on two cards (dubbing mode, which will be useful for important shootings or when copies of pictures need to be given away immediately), recording RAW- files on one, and JPEG on the second card, and finally, separate recording of videos and photos.

The only thing that the D300s has lost is the memory card slot blocker, which is connected with the appeared Info and Live View buttons. However, the compartment lid sits tightly, and it is not possible to accidentally open it, while in other SLR cameras (for example, in the D3000) this was in the order of things.

The camera is powered by a new 1500 mAh battery. Its resource is enough for an average of 800-1000 shots, which can be considered just an excellent indicator that few cameras can boast of.

Switching shooting modes is organized not quite familiar. Instead of the PASM mode selection wheel, there are the following modes (switching between them is carried out only when the lock button is pressed, which protrudes slightly above the wheel in front):

    S - frame shooting mode;
    CL - low-speed continuous shooting mode;
    CH - high-speed continuous shooting mode;
    Q - silent shooting mode;
    timer shooting mode;
    the mirror is up.

The continuous shooting frequency in low-speed and high-speed shooting modes can be set in the range from 1 to 7 frames per second (at the discretion of the user).

Within the above modes, the photographer can choose any of the required exposure modes (P - Programmed AE, A - Aperture Priority, S - Shutter Priority, M - Full Manual).

Oddly enough, this mode is the most convenient for professionals. Well, just for a lover to shoot, such an organization of camera control will not cause any particular inconvenience.

Almost all possible changes in shooting parameters can be made by holding a certain key and scrolling one of the two wheels. Or, as in Canon cameras, by pressing the button once and selecting one of the available options with the wheel.

The D300s is equipped with a 51-point autofocus system (15 cross-type sensors), so in practice the device cannot be fooled by shooting through a fence mesh or through a glass window with glare. Autofocus is very fast and tenacious.

The brightness of the focus point illumination can also be changed. It is possible to correct specific aberrations, vignetting by lens base and autofocus micro-correction. You can switch focus modes (C, S, M) using the lever near the camera mount.

S - single-frame tracking focus. Focusing is performed by pressing the shutter button halfway. When the in-focus indicator appears in the viewfinder, focus is locked and remains locked while the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. At default settings, the shutter can only be released when an in-focus indicator is displayed in the viewfinder.

C - continuous tracking focus. The camera focuses continuously until the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. If the subject is moving, predictive focus tracking will be used to determine the distance to the subject and adjust the focus. At default settings, pictures are taken whether the subject is in focus or not.

M - manual focus mode. Auto focus does not work. Focusing is done manually using the focusing ring on the lens. When using lenses with a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or faster, focus can be checked using the focus indicator in the viewfinder. You can take a picture at any time, even if the subject is out of focus.

The operation of the autofocus points is controlled by a separate switch. There are three modes.

Auto focus point selection. The camera automatically detects the subject and selects the focus point. When using a type G or D lens, the camera can recognize human figures, as we have clearly seen by shooting people in various conditions. In seven cases out of seven, the camera focused specifically on the person. In S mode, active focus points light up for just under a second after focus is reached. In C mode, active focus points are not displayed.

Autofocus with dynamic area selection. In C mode, the focus point is selected manually. If the object is a short time leaves the selected focus point, the camera will continue to focus, but based on the data from neighboring points. In custom settings, you can select 9, 21 or 51 focus points. If 3D tracking is selected, the focus point is automatically selected using it.

Single point autofocus. The focus point is selected manually, the camera focuses only on the subject in the selected focus point. In the D300s, the focus point(s), as, in general, and everything else, is selected instantly, you just need to move the lever ring from the L position to the position marked with a dot. The focus point is selected using a 9-way joystick, which is framed by this ring.

live view. As already noted, Live View capabilities have improved and turned out to be at the level of modern cameras. The D300s can focus both due to the phase-detection mechanism, and by focusing by contrast. In Live View mode, you can turn on the display of shooting information, live histogram and composition grid. From Live View, the video shooting mode is also called.

If the sharpness and artifacts of D300s video recording are similar to other HD cameras, then videos shot in conditions insufficient lighting and shallow depth of field look amazing. And this is all thanks to the large matrix, which is much larger than the matrices even in the most expensive camcorders. The shooting rate of 24 frames / s is not encouraging: it is precisely because of this frequency that the rolling shutter effect (aka the jelly effect) is more noticeable than at 30, 50 and 60 frames per second on Canon SLR cameras (in the same EOS 7D, to example). When objects move quickly in the frame, artifacts characteristic of progressive scanning are observed in the form of teeth on the borders of objects and jelly.

The ability to use any lens from Nikon's arsenal will allow you to achieve a variety of creative effects when shooting videos. They can also be edited without connecting to a computer. Unfortunately, in all aspects, except for autofocus during shooting, the camera loses to Canon models: both the EOS 7D and the cheaper EOS 550D can shoot videos not only in 1280 × 720 resolution, but also in 1920 × 1080 resolution, with a frequency of 24 to 60 frames per second. Although it is possible that advanced video capabilities will not be so important for a photographer.

    Menu

I would like to immediately note the lack of a menu in Nikon SLR cameras - it is overloaded. Sony and Canon's solutions look much more logical in this case: the menu hierarchy in them is built in such a way that there are no bookmarked items hidden from the user.

However, this minus is present only at the beginning of acquaintance with the camera. Further, it turns from overloaded to flexible and highly functional.

There are a huge number of customizable parameters in the D300s. You can set, for example, the maximum acceptable ISO value and the minimum shutter speed, which is convenient when shooting handheld in difficult conditions.

All menu values, as well as all camera custom settings, can be saved as profiles (so-called menu banks) and given proper names. This is very convenient for multi-purpose use of the camera and allows you to prepare for shooting in a minimum of time. The HELP button helps in mastering the menu, which displays a text explanation for the selected item.

The camera performs well in all modes. And although the automatic exposure works without any complaints (the work of the 1005-pixel RGB sensor affects), you have the opportunity to fit into the histogram even better: active D-Lighting makes exposure compensation so as not to knock out the light, ensuring the camera falls into the dynamic range.

Shooting with Active D-Lighting increases the recording time of a picture on the memory card and significantly reduces the burst buffer. A simple D-Lighting is also available through the menu, which optimizes the dynamic range after shooting, programmatically. With the Extra High option, gradient areas appear on the borders with contrasting objects. In addition, there is a Custom Picture Control that allows you to adjust settings such as sharpness, contrast, brightness, saturation, and hue. You can also apply filter effects and toning to your taste.

There are functions such as interval timer shooting and multiple exposure. Their parameters can be flexibly configured.

You cannot use Live View for more than one hour. Such operating conditions are associated with the heating of the matrix and the appearance of noise in the frame field. With a camera mounted on a tripod, getting a perfectly sharp picture is as easy as shelling pears, since in Live View mode you can enlarge any part of the frame field to a 1:1 scale and to visible pixelation.

Up to 72 pictures are displayed simultaneously in playback mode. The captured image information is divided into seven pages and includes file information, general information (color space, vignetting correction, white balance settings, etc.), GPS information, brightness and RGB histogram, and three pages of advanced settings. shooting. In other words, you can get comprehensive information about the footage without using a computer. You can add text comments to pictures.

The virtual horizon mode is available in both Live View and normal shooting. The horizon is only horizontal, not biaxial as in the Canon EOS 7D.
