Takt LLC is an old-timer of the Ukrainian metal market and a leader in the segment of rolled metal products used in mechanical engineering. Commercial Director Vladimir Semyonovich Oleinik agreed to tell Metallic Vestnik about the results achieved by the company in recent years.
Vladimir Semyonovich, for almost twenty years the company "Takt" has been present on the Ukrainian market of rolled metal products. Without a doubt, you have something to say about the company's development path.
Oh sure. We started our activity in 1995, in the era of barter. At first, Takt was engaged in the supply of almost all types of rolled metal, and many other materials. However, one of our main partners has always been machine-building enterprises. Often they settled with us with what lay in abundance in their warehouses, that is, primarily in circles, squares, hexagons. Therefore, when it came time to choose for ourselves the main direction of work, we settled on this particular segment of the metal market. This happened in 1998. By that time, the same fittings, angle, channel were sold by many. We had the opportunity to concentrate on the niche of rolled metal used in mechanical engineering. Since then, "Takt" has become the leading Ukrainian company for the supply of circles and other types of machine-building rolled products.
In addition to the main metal base in Dnepropetrovsk, we opened our branches in Melitopol and Donetsk. It was decided to abandon plans for further expansion of the distribution network and direct their efforts to the development own production calibrated rolled products and circles with special surface finish.
- When did Takt LLC start working in this direction?
Since 2008, the company has been purchasing equipment for the production of calibrated wheels and wheels with special surface finishes. In 2008, a new site was purchased in Dnepropetrovsk, and in 2011, the construction of a workshop with a total area of about 3,000 m2 began. Also in 2008, the company "Takt" was certified, confirming the compliance of the quality management system with the requirements of the international ISO standard 9001:2008 in the preparation and sale of rolled metal used in mechanical engineering and construction.
However, the crisis that broke out at the end of 2008 somewhat slowed down the implementation of our plans. Nevertheless, at the end of 2013, a number of units were launched, we started producing calibrated wheels and wheels with special surface finishes.
- Tell us more about your production area.
Takt LLC produces calibrated rolled products (GOST 7417–75) on cold drawing mills in the diameter range of 5–50 mm (quality h11, h10, surface quality group “B”). We have cold drawing machines for both coil-to-coil and bar-to-bar. Moreover, if rolled stock from ordinary carbon steel grades is processed without preliminary thermal preparation, then softening annealing furnaces are used when drawing stronger steel grades. The company has installed a shot blasting line designed to ensure high-quality surface preparation of rolled products. This approach compares favorably with other cleaning methods by minimizing the negative impact on the environment.
It is possible to process bars in the diameter range of 10–63 mm on centerless turning lines (manufacturing accuracy - h11, h10, h9 qualities; surface treatment quality - groups "C, D, D").
A similar surface finish in accordance with GOST 14955–77 is necessary in order to remove a defective and decarburized layer from the surface of a round hot-rolled steel from carbon, alloy and spring steels, as well as in order to obtain the required diameter of rolled products, depending on the requirements of the consumer.
Next comes the finishing department. It is equipped with correct-polishing machines. These units provide straightening of rolled metal after calibration and removal of residual stresses. After turning bar metal on centerless lathes, these machines allow polishing the surface of rolled metal. Centerless grinding equipment for processing bars with a diameter of 7–80 mm was installed.
An abrasive cut-off machine that processes bars with a diameter of 10–40 mm is used to trim the workpiece before turning and cut the bars to the desired size. There is also cutting and chamfering equipment for bar trimming and chamfering 30–60° (according to customer requirements).
- Why do you need such a thorough surface treatment?
As a matter of fact, one of our main tasks we see is the promotion of rolled products with a special surface finish to the Ukrainian market. It is necessary, first of all, for those enterprises that use European automatic turning lines. The latter impose special requirements specifically on the accuracy of the diameters of the workpiece being turned.
- How is product quality control ensured?
All rolling is supplied from the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant, which in itself guarantees the highest quality of the metal. Of course, upon receipt, each batch of rolling is checked by the quality control service, armed with the most modern equipment, which makes it possible to exclude the delivery of low-quality rolls into production. For example, line non-destructive testing DR.FOERSTER is used for incoming analysis of workpieces with a diameter of 10–40 mm. The line includes systems that provide the determination of both longitudinal and transverse surface defects of the workpiece, as well as its hidden flaws. And most importantly, to work in the quality control service, we widely involve trained personnel with experience in similar activities at large metallurgical enterprises.
The spark optical emission metal analyzer MetalScan PolySpek Junior (Great Britain) is used to control the chemical composition of the rolling stock that comes to us. When supplying high-quality rolled steel, of course, we get finished products that comply with all applicable standards and other regulatory documents.
Each batch of products is appropriately packaged and labeled, accompanied by a quality certificate, so that at any time you can check when, how and from what material it was made. Moreover, when introducing our products to a new consumer, our specialists necessarily participate in the stage of pilot testing, improving the quality of rolled products to the technological capabilities of the consumer as much as possible. Feedback with the consumer never stops. We are constantly improving our products.
- What are your mid-term plans?
We have not yet put into operation all the purchased units. Some of them will start working at the production site in Dnepropetrovsk, and some are planned to be installed in the workshop of the Donetsk branch. Of course, on this moment the situation in Ukraine is not conducive to an active increase in production, especially since the majority of our clients, machine-building enterprises, are quite closely connected with the CIS market. There have been problems with deliveries there lately, however, we believe that the decision to integrate into the EU economy is the right one. For our part, we are ready to work in this direction.
