Do-it-yourself chain-link mesh is made relatively simply, you just need to master the basic principles of its production technology at home and have some skills in performing simple plumbing operations.

1

For suburban areas, without exaggeration, the ideal option for arranging an elegant and functional fence is a chain-link. It can be installed independently, it does not obscure the garden and vegetable garden, as solid types of fences do. And purely outwardly, the mesh fence looks more airy and bright. With proper installation, such a fence will serve for several decades without losing its original appearance. In this case, any care for her is usually not required.

Also, independent weaving of a chain-link can be considered as commercial activities. Such a business will not bring very high profits, since the cost of steel wire, which is required for the manufacture of the mesh, is quite high. But if you periodically order a chain-link (for example, neighbors in a summer cottage), a good addition to the basic salary will be guaranteed. You will be able to free time make a grid and sell it at an affordable price.

2

The simplest device that can be used to produce a mesh with the most popular mesh sizes of 80 by 80, 60 by 60 and 45 by 45 millimeters is a design consisting of the following elements:

  • feeding drum;
  • line segment ;
  • metal rollers;
  • bending machine.

An ordinary household bucket can act as a drum. It will need to be turned upside down and put on a wide wooden board, fixing it with some kind of load (thus we will save it from falling in the process of weaving mesh products).

We will wind the wire onto this home-made feeder, and then we will feed it to the channel with rollers installed on it (three of them will need to be mounted).

By changing the position of the middle roller, you can control the force required to tension the steel material. For high-quality rotation of rollers mounted on bolts, it is recommended to put restrictive washers on them that are small in thickness (from 1 to 1.5 millimeters).

The bending machine is also made independently from a thick-walled steel pipe. A spiral groove is cut out at an angle of 45 degrees to the axis (about 4–5 millimeters). The end of the specified groove (about five centimeters from the end of the pipe) is a round hole. The groove is necessary to accommodate a knife made of hard alloy(for example, from tool steel).

The pipe should be welded to a strong steel corner, which in turn is connected to a reliable base. In the process of welding the corner and the pipe, try not to close the groove. The knife in it will be fastened either with a hairpin or with an ordinary screw. Adjustment of the machine support without problems is performed using washers.

3

Before starting production, you need to wipe with machine oil (you can take the spent composition) the steel wire used as the feedstock. Some home craftsmen also simplify this process using a special mechanism (they do it, of course, on their own). Such a mechanism is just a small box with an outlet and an inlet (their diameter should be slightly larger than the wire section). A lubricant is poured into it, through which the material passes before it enters the bending machine.

The mesh fabrication sequence is as follows:

  • the wire at its end is bent into a hook;
  • the resulting workpiece is pulled through the groove and connected to the knife in the pipe;
  • they begin to rotate the device (usually for this a lever is installed on it, which simplifies the implementation of this operation) until the original workpiece takes the form of a wave.

The wavy wire is then placed into segments of the required length and is wound on an inverted bucket. Please note that a meter of wave-shaped chain-link is obtained from 1.45 meters of straight steel wire. Separate pieces of the mesh are joined to each other immediately before the process of stretching it. This procedure will be easier if you unscrew the outermost wire. Then you can apply the ends of the grid one to the other and fasten them with the removed wire.

It is allowed to mount the fastened mesh netting directly on the fence under construction (to columns made of reinforced concrete or other material dug in advance and securely fixed in the ground). It is recommended to put wooden slats on the poles. The chain-link is stretched and fastened to the rails with the help of nails. The process of tensioning the mesh is simplified in cases where a tension beam or clutch is used (they are hooked to some kind of support - a wall, a tree, and then twisted with a strong rope).

Home craftsmen who have mastered the operation of making a chain-link mesh well with their own hands and have erected more than one reliable fence are advised to paint the fence after installation. Moreover, they say that it is better to paint the mesh not with a roller, but with an ordinary brush. In this case, the quality of applying the layer is higher - the paint easily penetrates into the weaves of the chain-link, and these places are very difficult to access.

4

Described technology self-produced chain-link is suitable in cases where it is planned to fence relatively large tracts of land. But if you need to make quite a bit of mesh to build cages for domestic animals (geese, chickens, nutrias, rabbits, and so on), you can make the mesh much easier.

Take a plate of high rigidity with a width identical to that which the chain-link cells should have, and a thickness slightly greater than the thickness of the feedstock. You wind this very raw material (steel wire) onto a plate, heat it up, and then wait until the material cools in air (no need to try to speed up the cooling process by using certain cooling devices).

After that, remove the wire from the plate. Moreover, each new turn in relation to the previous one is unbent at a ninety-degree angle. The wire snake, which is obtained in this case, is screwed into another similar snake (you just need to connect the links of the two blanks together). The finished structure of the required geometric dimensions is obtained by stringing several blanks on top of each other.

For the production of mesh in small volumes (according to the second method that we described), it is desirable to use a relatively soft wire. It is easier to wind it on a plate, heat it up, and then remove it. But even if one was not found in your household, feel free to use any steel material. In cases where a hard or very springy wire is used, after being removed from the plate, its turns can be noticeably bent. This is not a problem. Take a hammer and give the product the desired shape with light taps.

As you can see, it is not difficult to make a chain-link mesh on your own. Spend a little of your time, be smart, and save the money you planned to spend on purchasing fence material!

Construction is a field of activity that continues to exist even in an economically unstable environment. Demand for building materials is seasonal, but the average annual figures remain very impressive. Thus, the production of chain-link mesh is a promising business. The advantage is a low entry threshold. However, we should not forget that this is accompanied by high competition. In order to successfully enter the market and recoup your investments within the first 2-3 months, you need to draw up a business plan that will take into account all the nuances of this business. This project is designed for a city with a population of more than 1 million people.

Key Success Factors:

  • low investment;
  • quality goods;
  • acceptable prices;
  • steady demand;
  • the presence of regular buyers and intermediaries.

The amount of initial investment is 340 000 rubles.

The break-even point is reached at the first month of work.

The payback period is from 3 to 6 months.

Average net monthly income 64 000 rubles.

Profitability of sales 16% .

2. Description of the business, product or service

The chain-link mesh is construction material, the scope of which is very wide:

  • creation of various fences(including construction sites, garden plots, flower beds, livestock enclosures, during thermal insulation work ) ;
  • screening of loose materials(for example, sand);
  • fastening of mine workings.

The main advantage of this material is that the chain-link mesh does not create shading of the fenced area, unlike solid fences made of wood or concrete. .

For the production of mesh, galvanized steel wire is used, which is twisted in a certain way on special equipment.

To start the project, it is enough to rent a production facility with an area of 20-25 m2, buy 1-2 machines and hire 2 operators. At first, you can work in one shift. With an increase in the customer base, it is necessary to establish the work of the workshop 24/7, hire 2 more employees, and also purchase an additional machine.

This type of business has a seasonality, in the spring and summer time, during the construction period, there is an increase in sales, in autumn and winter there is a decline, for which you need to be prepared and have financial reserves.

Chain-link mesh is classified according to the following criteria:

According to the material from which it is made;

By the size of the cells on the grid;

According to the thickness of the wire;

According to the size of the finished rolls.

The most popular is galvanized chain-link mesh in rolls 1.5 × 10 m in size with square cells 50 × 50 mm and a wire width of 1.6 mm.

Thus, in this business plan, we will carry out all calculations taking into account the production of this particular type of mesh.

Select for production automatic machine. It has high productivity and quality of manufactured products, minimum dependence on the qualifications of the worker.

To maximize profit as additional services It is possible to carry out orders according to the individual sizes of buyers.

3. Description of the market

In general, the sale of finished products in this business area can be carried out in the following ways:

As part of this work, we will consider retail and wholesale sales. However, in the process of activity, you can significantly expand the scope of implementation.

Recently, we have seen a constant growth in the construction industry. Thus, this niche has great potential. The graph shows the growth in the number construction organizations from 2012-2016 (official website of statistics gks.ru)

The number of operating construction organizations in the Russian Federation.

4. Sales and Marketing

5. Production plan

The key goal is to open the production of chain-link mesh and maximize profits.

Room characteristics:

  • room area 20-25 sq. m;
  • availability of uninterrupted power supply;
  • location - industrial zone.

Paperwork:

  • Registration of a legal entity - IP, LLC.
  • Registration with the tax authorities. (OKVED: Code - 25.93 "Manufacture of products from wire, chains and springs")
  • Choice of taxation system. (STS, income-expenses - 15%)
  • Registration documents cash register at the tax office.
  • Conclusion of a lease agreement.
  • Documents confirming compliance with the requirements of sanitary, technical, fire, environmental safety.

Equipment selection:

For our project, we choose an automatic machine for the production of chain-link mesh ASU-174M.

Types of mesh produced on this machine:

  • mesh with diamond-shaped and square cells, from 15 to 60 mm in size and wire with a diameter of up to 3 mm,
  • galvanized wire mesh, PVC-coated (multi-coloured insulation), uncoated and not heat-treated,
  • chain-link with a mesh width of 0.5 to 2 m.

Selection of raw materials:

For the production of chain-link mesh, wire is used according to GOST 3282-74, uncoated, galvanized. It is most advantageous to use raw materials in rosettes, since the unwinding of such wire on the machine occurs without the formation of loops. For uninterrupted production, it is necessary to cooperate with several suppliers of raw materials.

6. Organizational structure

To start this business at the initial stages, it will be enough to hire one competent manager and two operators who will work in 2/2 shifts for 12 hours.

The main responsibilities of the manager include general management, product sales, and the purchase of raw materials. He also performs the functions of a storekeeper and exercises control over the workers. Consequently, the range of responsibilities is quite wide, therefore, for this position, you should hire a person to whom you can fully trust the above powers. At the start, the business owner himself can become a manager.

The production process is quite simple: a worker inserts a coil of wire into the machine, selects the necessary parameters for the mesh on the control panel (mesh size, length and width of the web), presses start. The machine pulls the wire to the right place, where it winds around the auger in spirals, which are then cut off, and one end of the wire is bent into a hook. Then such blanks are put on a shaft attached to a cutting device, it constantly rotates. The spring is stretched and another spring is wound around it, and so on, until the desired mesh length is obtained. The finished mesh is wound into a roll, and the end of the wire is cut off. After that, the rolls are treated with technical oil, packed in paper and stored on racks.

Thus, the main requirements for the employee are attentiveness, accuracy and accuracy; experience in this area is welcome.

Staff receive a fixed wages: manager - 30,000 rubles; operators - 20,000 rubles.

7. Financial plan

In terms of sales, we will consider 2 main sources of income: wholesales and retail. The average market price of one roll of chain-link mesh at retail is 900 rubles, wholesale - 600 rubles. Machine output is 22 rolls per 12 hour shift. That is, under the scenario under consideration, we can produce a maximum of 660 rolls per month. The market price of the wire is 40 rubles/kg. It takes 10 kg of wire to produce one roll. Therefore, the consumption of raw materials for 1 roll in monetary terms is 400 rubles.

Demand will grow gradually during the first 5 months and by the 6th month it will return to its normal levels. The peak of sales will fall on the spring-summer period. Thus, the scenario under consideration is realistic, and with a successful entry into the market, the project has a reserve for increasing profits.

Chain-link mesh as a structural material was invented and patented in 1878 by Karl Rabitza. They make a chain-link mesh from a metal low-carbon steel wire, more often with a polymer coating or galvanized. It is rare to find a chain-link mesh made of stainless wire.

Let's try in this business plan to figure out whether it is profitable to produce a chain-link mesh (hereinafter referred to as a chain-link) and how much you can earn on it.

Wire for the production of netting and its corrosion

There are two types of chain-link mesh in the form of cells: rhombic (acute angle of 60 degrees) and square. The chain-link, as a rule, is supplied in rolls, the height of the roll is 1.5 meters, the length is 10 meters. But you can order other sizes, for example, a height of 1 to 4 meters, and a mesh length of up to 18 meters. The ends of the mesh rolls are packed in thick paper, burlap or polyethylene.

90% of the mesh produced is used for fencing the territory, so protection from moisture is so important in the production of this material. They protect the chain-link in several ways: painting, galvanizing or polymer coating.

Galvanizing is the most common method. On galvanized wire (hot-dip galvanizing method), the zinc content is between 70 and 90 grams per m2. A mesh made from such material will not rust for 20-25 years. There is another method of galvanizing wire - the electrolytic method. With it, the zinc coating is from 10 g / m2. and as a result, a mesh of such wire will rust in two years.

In addition to rain, salt water can cause rust on the grid. Therefore, for such conditions, it is better to use a steel wire mesh with a polymer coating. If there are scratches or cuts on the coating, then such a mesh is not of high quality and soon the mesh will rust in these places, the coating will burst.

The painting of the chain-link is mainly done already at the installation site. If you paint it in production, then the paint will rub off in the roll and the protection will not be of high quality.

The strength of the netting depends on the size of the cell and the diameter of the wire. The smaller the mesh and the larger the wire diameter, the stronger the mesh. Since the cost of the chain-link mesh is the price of the wire from which it is made, some entrepreneurs overestimate the size of the mesh and reduce its diameter.

In civilian conditions, the wire diameter rarely exceeds 2 mm. The most commonly used wire is 1-1.5 mm. It is quite simple to calculate the wire consumption for the manufacture of 1 m2 of mesh. The formula for calculating 1m2 of chain-link:

13.40*D2/A, where

13.40 - coefficient corresponding to the consumption weight;

D2 is the diameter of the wire squared;

A is the size of the grid cell. If the size is 50 * 50, then we count 50, if 35 * 35, then 35.

For the calculation, we will use a galvanized low-carbon wire with a tensile strength of 560-900N / mm2, a diameter of 1.6 mm. Wire consumption per 1 m2 of chain-link according to the formula will be 13.4 * 1.6 * 1.6 / 50 = 0.69 kg. Now, in order to find out how much wire we need for a shift, for a month of work, we need to choose the right equipment for us and find out the production volume of the machine.

Wire mesh production equipment and production room

The bulk of the costs, as with many other types of business, goes to the purchase of equipment. If you go on the Internet and look for equipment for this production, you will see a lot of machines for making chain-link mesh from different “Kulibins”. We will not dwell on such manual machines for making chain-link mesh, but we will only consider what factories for the production of certified equipment offer.

Equipment for the production of netting can be semi-automatic and automatic.

Semi-automatic equipment for the production of chain-link mesh

When using this equipment, the use of manual labor is mandatory, even for such an operation as mesh folding. As a result, cell asymmetry and other imperfections can be seen in the finished product. The advantage of this equipment is the ease of assembly and adjustment, it takes up little space and is inexpensive. The cost varies from 20,000 to 35,000 rubles.

Automatic equipment

Automatic equipment is more expensive, the cost starts from 200,000 rubles (used 150,000 rubles). For this equipment, the use of operator presence is minimal, high productivity, weaving precision.

For our business plan, we will consider the purchase of semi-automatic equipment, since a garage will be used for work. We will produce a standard roll 1.5 * 10, with a cell size of 50 * 50. 18 rolls can be produced per day on equipment with this cell size. The area for equipment is 1-1.5 m2, power is 2.2 kW / h. The cost of equipment, a table for a machine tool and others necessary tools- 30,000 rubles.

Choice of legal form

For this type of business, it is better to open an individual entrepreneur, it is easier and cheaper. Opening an LLC is more expensive, but you do not need to pay fees to Pension Fund with IP. And since in the first months of the existence of a business, and maybe even a year, there may not be much profit, it is more profitable from a material point of view to open an LLC.

Taxation - STS (simplified reporting system), income minus expenses.

The production of chain-link mesh is regulated by GOST 5336-80. For best sale products are recommended to undergo voluntary certification.

Calculation of income and expenses

Let's calculate the work of our production for a month.

Revenue. On the equipment we have chosen, 18 rolls of chain-link mesh can be produced per day. Thus, for a month 18*20=360 rolls. The cost of selling a roll is 500 rubles or 360*500=180,000 rubles.

Expenses. To run a business, you need one employee, a salary of 15,000 rubles, payroll taxes of 4,500 rubles. We will conduct business in our own garage, so there is no need to spend money on rent, electricity per month is 1,980 rubles, wire consumption is 18 * 20 * 1.5 * 10 * 0.69 = 3,726 kilograms. The cost of the wire is 35,000 rubles/ton, or 3,726*35=130,410 rubles. Others, including transportation and packaging costs, can amount to 10,000 rubles.

We collect all expenses: 15,000 + 4,500 + 1,980 + 130,410 + 10,000 = 161,890 rubles. It turns out that if you sell all the wire produced in a month, then the net profit will be 180,000-161,890 = 18,110 rubles.

The main channels for the implementation of the chain-link mesh

You can sell your product through retail stores, wholesale depots, agricultural markets, as well as direct sales to individuals. Implementation through tenders is also possible, but for beginners it is quite difficult.

Conclusion

The main conclusion on the manufacture of chain-link mesh as a business can be made that it will not be difficult to produce the products themselves, the main thing is to sell them.

  • Capital investment: 2 650 500 rubles,
  • Average monthly revenue: 1 232 00 rubles,
  • Net profit: 113,606 rubles,
  • Payback: 2 years!

Equipment

As part of our business plan for organizing the production of chain-link mesh, this machine for the production of mesh-netting (China) was chosen as the main equipment.

Production characteristics machine:

The cost is 1,450,000 rubles. However, there are many other equipment for weaving chain-link mesh on the market with a more loyal price range (for example, the ASU-174 machine). It should also be noted that manual weaving equipment will cost less than automatic weaving. So, a semi-automatic machine for weaving chain-link mesh, with a capacity of up to 150 sq.m. per work shift (cell 55 * 55) will cost only 34,000 rubles. (The price is current as of April 2015).

Number of staff

For the operation of the workshop with one-shift work, 4 people are enough

Job responsibilities:

  • Director: general management, sales of products, purchase of raw materials;
  • Senior shift: control over production technology, functions of a storekeeper, control over workers;
  • Workers: production.

The following items are included in the expenses:

Profitability calculation

Payback calculation

According to the calculations made, the payback period for the chain-link mesh production shop is 2 years. If you can find sales markets, then the equipment can work in 2 shifts and 30 days, then with this option, the payback will be much faster.

4. Organizational form

For the workshop for the production of chain-link mesh, it is most optimally suited organizational form: « Individual entrepreneur».

The most suitable form of taxation is the simplified taxation system (income minus expenses). Tax return is submitted once a year.

The following taxes are paid on this taxation system: income tax 15%, unified social tax (32%) and income taxes (13%).

Nowadays, most summer residents prefer to use to fence their plots and logically distribute the area into sections.

The chain-link mesh is an invention of engineer Karl Rabitz, who at one time came up with the idea of using rolls of knitting wire to create a spectacular, very convenient and at the same time quite cheap fence.

1 Features of mesh and wire

Chain-link mesh is a special type of mesh made from braided wire. The wire is taken thin, with a diameter of up to 3 mm. Most often, samples with a cross-sectional size of 1-1.5 millimeters are used.

The wire is knitted on a special machine, intertwined into a mesh with rectangular cells of a certain size.

The benefits of using a chain-link mesh are obvious. Its weight is quite low, you can mount the structure with your own hands. The wire consumption is relatively small, it is easily determined and does not hit the pocket.

At the same time, the fence performs its tasks. Its dimensions are sufficient to qualitatively protect the site from the street, thereby protecting your space from unwanted guests, animals, etc.

They use it for a wide variety of tasks, ranging from fencing pens with animals, and ending with full-fledged fences at security companies.

The wire itself plays an important role. It is the only and main component of the grid, so its characteristics, dimensions and thickness have a huge impact on the final result.

See also: what are the benefits, and where can it be used?

In terms of the cross-sectional diameter, as we have already noted, rather thin samples are selected, their thickness rarely exceeds 2 mm.

For a large-sized mesh, the use of which is reasonable at military or industrial facilities, thicker models can also be used, but in civilian conditions there are no particular advantages from it, and the production price of a thick chain-link mesh is much higher.

1.1 Coating

The second point is coverage. The coating of the wire affects how long it will last in operating conditions.

According to the type of coating, the wire for the fence chain-link is:

  1. Black.
  2. Polymerized or plasticized.

Black is the wire for the fence, untreated. It is cast from black steel of a standard grade. This steel is very good and perfect for fastening the fence, if not for its poor resistance to corrosion.

The fence mesh made of a black sample of wire will begin to rust in a few years, and in a dozen it will completely rust. Not that it was a very big problem.

The fence will not crumble due to rust, but it will lose its presentation, as well as the initial strength indicators.

Galvanized mesh wires are the simplest and most effective solution. Galvanized mesh withstands the influence of external factors longer, less likely to corrode.

However, galvanized products will also begin to break down over time, but much later. But it is more durable, not inferior to the first option in strength and does not cost much more.

Polymerized or plasticized mesh is the most popular and convenient option. Here, steel wires are coated with polymer compounds, forming a kind of protective sheath.

2 Manufacturing

Many are interested in whether it is possible to create a chain-link type grid with your own hands. After all, modern manufacturers have managed to use a minimum of equipment and materials for such tasks.

Indeed, in order to form a high-quality mesh, huge workshops and production lines are not needed. It is enough to have material and a single quality one.

Do not weave a chain-link by hand. It's heavy, ungrateful and monstrous slow way production.

See also: in which companies can I order?

It is much more reasonable to use modern automatic or semi-automatic, where the process comes down to cutting wires of the desired length, feeding them to the machine, and then weaving in the right order.

This work is performed by the machine operator. During a shift, he makes several tens of square meters of a grid with cells of 50 × 50 mm. It is impossible to give exact performance figures, because much depends on the type of wires, the efficiency of the machine, the size of the cells, the efficiency of the operator himself, etc.

2.1 Chain-link production on a semi-automatic machine (video)

2.2 Material consumption

The consumption of material is quite easy to detect. For this, there is a clear and easy formula that allows us to understand quite accurately how much product is needed and how much it will cost us.

The formula is based on the ratio of several indicators. The nominal weight of the raw material for the grid, the size of the mesh cells (the size of the cell directly affects the consumption) and the diameter of the wire are taken into account.

So, consumption formula for 1 square meter of chain-link as follows:

13.40 * D 2 /A, where

  • 13.40 - a constant coefficient corresponding to the consumption weight;
  • D 2 - wire diameter squared;
  • A - cell size (if the cell is 50 × 50 mm, then we write 50 in A, if 35 × 35 mm, then we write 35 in A, etc.).

The result is the weight of the wire, or the weight of the roll, that must be used to form a 1 square meter netting of the required dimensions.

For a standard chain-link intended for use in civil conditions with a cell size of 55 × 55 mm, the weight of the material used, and therefore its consumption, is 0.6 kg per 1 m 2.

According to such a simple, but at the same time effective scheme, you can easily determine the weight and consumption of any kind of chain-link.

2.3 Manufacturers

Weaving a chain-link is permissible and profitable only if you are absolutely confident in your abilities and clearly understand why you need it.

Buying even a manual machine - serious investment of money. They will not pay off as soon as you might like.

That is why for tasks that are trivial and small, it makes sense to simply turn to well-known manufacturers and buy products of the quality you need.

Fortunately, there are more than enough manufacturers on the market. The chain-link weaving process is so simple that there are factories for its production in almost every major city.

  • UkrTransMetal;
  • PE "Metizy-94".

The former are engaged in large-scale production of a huge number of metal and wire products, ranging from knitting collars for fittings to full-fledged fencing sections.

The second ones are less popular, but they offer their products at a lower price with excellent quality.

Chain-link wire from these manufacturers is very high quality and durable, sold in a huge number of varieties.

2.4 Mounting

An interesting point concerns the fastening of the mesh as a full-fledged fence. For fastening use different ways. The choice depends on your desires and working conditions.

So, the easiest and at the same time very effective way is to plant a chain-link in advance. Fasteners in this case are made from cheaper or special fasteners.

If the situation requires it, then a hard wire or thin fittings are passed along the lower and upper parts of the cells. It will stabilize the plane of the fence, making it much more stable.

The second mounting option is the installation of separate sections, where a pre-cut chain-link is attached to a full-fledged section consisting of a metal frame, and then, as an integral element of the fence, it is planted on ready-made monolithic poles.

This design is considered much more mobile, it is easy to repair and modify, but it will take more time to work, you may need the help of a welder. Which in turn increases the final cost of the fence.
