What did not like

Not very capacious battery (about 200 photos per charge).
No Wi-Fi (I have it on another fotik - 2 times cheaper, by the way - a very convenient feature).
Compatible lenses are very expensive.
The flash is weak (or it is not coaxial with the lens, until I figured it out), besides, there are no settings for the flash.
There is no automatic panorama mode.

What did you like

High-quality screen, besides touch. Support for SDXC cards (relevant for long video shooting). Compact size (especially with Power Zoom lens). At the price of an entry-level soap dish, it gives an incomparably higher quality of photos.

What did not like

For a week of use, there was practically not a single sharp shot, and this way and that, no way (it's called "shake" in the jargon) and this despite the fact that I have many years of experience in photo and video shooting. The video is written in such a quality, as if the video had already been shot and re-encoded a hundred times. Well, you can not talk about the rest, it makes no sense.

What did you like

Design, flat strap loops (fits well on the neck when walking)

What did not like

You can't set timer bracketing.
Video is choppy, 25 fps. in and it's sad, for that kind of money. (Memory card record 25 mbps.)

What did you like

There are no complaints about the photos, it shoots well.

What did not like

Not that there are shortcomings, but I’ll still write
- the switch is unusual, I hope it is reliable
- the cover of the USB HDMI connectors is not on the hinge, so it will most likely fall off in the near future.
I haven’t found others yet, but I bought it recently, maybe there’s something else, I wouldn’t want to, of course :)

What did you like

Photos even at full auto are just super, great pictures even with little or no light and no flash, I'm just in shock, happy as five elephants :)

What did not like

how many times I didn’t take pictures, he decides whether there will be soap in the photo or not, no matter how I set it up!

What did you like

Assembly, price, color rendition

What did not like

I don’t like how the landscape is photographed, maybe I’m doing something like that ... some pictures are not expressive, as soon as I didn’t rearrange the modes. I even tried manual ones ... maybe someone will advise what to do. My camera is soapy did better....

What did you like

I like how it photographs portrait and macro (although I didn’t find this mode in the settings, it is displayed only in auto mode for some reason) Small, comfortable, a bag from the previous camera came up.

What did not like

until I noticed

What did you like

good pocket camera. Fast, intuitive, pleased with the screen, auto mode too, comfortable grip. I looked closely and compared for a long time, I do not wish. A good buy

What did not like

minor:
there was no back cover for the lens and for the camera itself, so that you could safely detach the lens, there is only the top cover of the lens, which, by the way, does not hold well, it sometimes falls off when not needed, and there is no strap for the cover so as not to lose ( I had my Olympian ultrazoom SP-820uz, which I liked) but I’m afraid to lose or forget somewhere
not very user friendly menu
there is no beauty mode (which the Olympus liked), cat. if necessary, smoothes skin imperfections (for example, automatically removes bags under the eyes, makes a more even tone)

What did you like

compactness for all its functionality touch screen nimble lens hood included very comfortable grip))))) at least for my small female hand, the quality of the photos is clearly better than that of simple soap dishes (especially if you set it up correctly) I like the color reproduction in the photo automatic intelligent mode pleases, and for him a separate button price (took for 10)

What did not like

image quality is very far from DSLRs, inconvenient menu

What did you like

What did not like

A complicated menu, especially for me the choice of focus (one setting for both photo and video shooting, often you need manual when photographing). It would be better if they left the program selection ring on the case. Without reading the extended instructions, it is better not to take serious pictures.

What did you like

Dimensions, long battery life (if you don't shoot video full SD), screen with excellent resolution, Japanese assembly (2 years warranty). Comes with Blenda.

What did not like

There is no "shoe" for the flash. The matrix is only 12 mp. In some cases (cloudy weather, twilight) a little soapy chamber jeep - you have to "hold out" in the editor.

What did you like

Compact, lightweight, comfortable in the hand. Good automation. Touch screen. Pretty quiet matrix. Lots of built-in scene modes and filters. Good color rendering. Suitable as a family camera when you need to quickly take great pictures and not bother with the settings.

What did not like

The video quality is not perfect. Surprisingly, the same Panasonic TZ-30 video is many times better than that of the GF5, and this despite the fact that the TZ-30 is an ordinary soap dish.

Mirrorless cameras are here to stay, take over the world and change it. To deny that the focus of users - professionals and amateurs - as well as the market has shifted towards mirrorless, is simply silly. At the end of 2018, Nikon, under the loud slogan Mirrorlessre invention, released its first full-frame mirrorless cameras.

It is pointless to argue that at one time the Nikon D800 was not just an outstanding camera, but a breakthrough on the scale of the entire photographic equipment market. Landscape painters began to massively switch to eight hundred studio photographers- too. The D800E released in parallel caused some confusion. Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro lens review

The Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro doesn't have many reviews yet and quite a few tests, so I decided to correct the situation, especially since macro lenses are my element and I use them all the time. The new Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro essentially opens up a whole new direction for macro photography in the FUJIFILM X-mount range. this is the first macro lens this format with a scale of 1:1 and with the most convenient focal length for most situations. Prior to this, the X-mount system had the XF 60mm f/2.4 macro, which gave a scale of only 1:2. Anything can be considered "macro", but in fact 1: 1 is optimal for any more or less demanding macro photographers. On a smaller scale it is difficult to shoot something unusual. And there was a ZEISS Touit 50 / 2.8 at a scale of 1: 1, but not very convenient in the field macro due to the fact that it reached a 1: 1 scale at 0.15 m focusing distance.

Ever since cameras have been taught to shoot video, it has become more and more popular solution, and special camcorders fade into the background. Panasonic has long focused on the video capabilities of its cameras. Together with Olympus and Kodak, the company developed the micro4/3 standard. Kodak has not succeeded in the release of digital solutions, but Panasonic and Olympus have clearly divided their forces into video and photo, respectively. And now Panasonic introduced its flagship solution - Panasonic Lumix GH5.

4K at 60 fps

The GH5 was shown to the public back in September at the Photokina exhibition, but it was at CES that the company first declassified the characteristics, talked about the start date of sales and the price of the device. The manufacturer made the main emphasis in the new camera on video in 4K resolution. Videographers are increasingly switching to such a large picture, as it helps to use video more efficiently in editing. But the last flagship GH4 was also able to shoot 4K. The difference is that the GH5 is now capable of doing this at 60 frames per second. Moreover, the video is now available in 10-bit bit depth, which will give greater opportunities for color correction. And if you reduce the resolution to HD, you can shoot video up to 480 frames per second. By the way, these features are not yet available for bench models, but will be implemented through software updates before the start of summer.

Updated Matrix

The company, following Olympus, abandoned the low-pass filter on the matrix, which will seriously affect the sharpness of the resulting image. And yet, the matrix has acquired its own stabilization. Although the company claims 5-axis stabilization, experts note that these are marketers' inventions. In fact, the matrix is stabilized along 3 axes, and an additional two axes are provided by stabilization in Panasonic lenses. By the way, about the matrix. It has grown up and now it has 20 megapixels, instead of 16 for the GH4. In addition to the additional 4 megapixels, the camera has improved light sensitivity. This is a distinctive feature of the new generation matrix, and it is on this that the manufacturer has made a special emphasis.

2 card slots

The camera also has a double slot for memory cards. This will allow you to set up saving photos and videos on different memory cards. Or on one - video of the highest quality, and on the other in a "shrunken" format. Or use two cards for maximum uninterrupted recording. It is worth noting here that if cameras used to limit the maximum duration of video shooting, then the GH5 does not do this and the duration of the video you shoot is conditionally infinite.

Based on the test results, Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 rises to the 1st place in our corresponding rating. There are enough reasons for this: the Micro Four Thirds DSLM camera performs very well in all test categories, repeatedly standing out in the most positive way. Superb image quality, luxurious equipment, fast autofocus and, above all, cinema-friendly video mode, all meet every requirement at the highest level. Only the length of time battery life here it turned out to be “only” average.

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: the best among cameras with sensors up to APS-C

It's amazing what a sense of fascination the Panasonic Lumix GH5 evokes in everyone who takes it into their own hands. Whether it's a test engineer, a video producer or a "classic" photographer, everyone can be overwhelmed by the myriad possibilities that this "Micro Four Thirds" DSLM camera offers them. It is rare to find a device that can be so interesting to so many different users at the same time.

There is also surprisingly high performance, which delights our editors from the test lab. There are also luxurious video features that directors have only heard about in stories about models from the “five-figure” price segment. In addition, the camera can shoot at 30 frames per second, and the resulting images will be 18 megapixels each - something that photographers could not even dream of before.

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: comprehensively improved

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 positions itself as a kind of swiss army knife among system cameras, because it easily copes with any, even the most difficult task. Shooting in low light conditions is not a real problem either. With the release of the Lumix GH5, Panasonic offers the very best in the Micro Four Thirds camera market.

In our rating, this model also became the best among devices with sensors up to APS-C. But precisely because the camera turned out to be so high level, many will consider it more meticulously and at least in a whisper, but criticize.

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: blind buy

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: Focus point movement and menu navigation with touch input is very convenient

Let's be brief: anyone who is able to pay approximately 140,000 rubles (2000 euros) for the Panasonic Lumix GH5 can buy it without hesitation. It doesn't matter if you're into sports photography, filmmaking or some other field, the Lumix GH5 has everything you need. Just take a look at the photos we took during the practical part of the test, inspect the test chart, and immediately go to the nearest store with photo equipment.

Oh, are you still here? Then you might be wondering why the Panasonic Lumix GH5 got us so excited. We'll start with the image quality of the 20-megapixel relatively small Four Thirds sensor. Even if you may initially think that it was taken from the Lumix GX8, it is still obvious that we are talking about new development. We come to this conclusion based on the fact that the sharpness of the contours at the level of the maximum 1905 line pairs per frame height is the highest in its class of matrices.

The rejection of the low-pass filter seems to have been justified. It is also surprising how consistently the Lumix GH5 keeps the set high quality bar. Even at ISO 12800, this DSLM camera is capable of 1612 line pairs per frame height, which is more than some other Micro Four Thirds DSLM cameras at minimum ISO. Wonderful!

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: Best image quality among Four Thirds sensors

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: no pop-up flash, only a hot shoe on the top side

Sufficient edge definition has never been a problem with Four Thirds sensors. On the contrary, the accuracy of the transfer of details and noise - were. The situation is quite different with the Lumix GH5: up to and including ISO 3200, the accuracy of the reproduction of details remains at a very high level with at the same time low noise.

Even the results of shooting at ISO 6400 deserve attention. "Interfering" pixels are hardly noticeable even at 100% enlargement of the photo. Detail is also impressive, although the textures look a little softer than at minimum ISO. True, it is worth noting that with its larger sensor (APS-C format) it is no better in this regard.

Of course, these characteristics are achieved at full, 20-megapixel resolution. What happens if the images are scaled down a bit? For example, only up to 8 megapixels, as is the case with Ultra-HD video? Then you can shoot at ISO 12800 without compromising on image quality. For videographers, this opens up completely new possibilities. And not only that, the video mode turns out to be simply the highest performing and most functional of all that our editors have ever seen.

Everything from super-clear Cinema-4K recordings at 24fps and Ultra-HD clips at 60fps to Full-HD video at a maximum of 180fps and 7.5x slow motion - the camera is ready for use in any field. At the same time, the presence of a modern HEVC codec h.265 seems almost self-evident, but direct recording to a card with an unlimited clip length and a 10 Bit 4:2:2 color space - in no case.

In addition, a whopping 150Mbps are available for Ultra-HD recording, which will be raised to 400Mbps within the next year with a free firmware update. Freeze frames when shooting extremely dynamic subjects such as a blazing fire or falling leaves are a thing of the past.

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: Skillful Video Mode

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: Due to its rather short battery life, the DMW-BGGH5 splash-proof battery grip, which costs approximately 350 euros, is an example of an almost mandatory accessory

The same goes for the rolling shutter effect: rapidly rotating the camera left and right does not cause distorted vertical lines in the Panasonic Lumix GH5, a shortcoming experienced by the previous model. In addition, the additional crop factor does not interfere here: as soon as you deactivate the “teleconverter” option in the redesigned menu, the “regular” Four Thirds system crop factor of 2.0 will remain untouched.

Lumix GH5 "reads" data from the entire surface of the sensor and, thanks to supersampling, produces extremely clear moving pictures. Only the horizontal edges are trimmed to suit the need to adapt to the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Even if the previous paragraphs have already told a lot about the video mode, all that has been said is still just the tip of the iceberg of possibilities that the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is ready to offer. A story about each feature would probably take up as much space as a full test report usually takes.

Therefore, we will simply list the most important ones: timecode illumination, subject tracking, brightness range 0-1023, flicker reduction, black level control, timestamp, microphone volume level, color bars (SMPTE, EBU and ARIB) and freely configurable gamma. curve - all this will make the heart of every professional videographer beat faster.

Of course, to complete the picture, we also mention the on-board headphone output and external microphone input, which promises to improve the already decent sound quality recorded on the integrated stereo microphone. However, if you'd like to get the most out of it, you'll need to connect the DMW-XLR1 mic module via the hot shoe and use two XLR mics to enjoy the high quality of 24-bit High-Res-Audio at 96kHz.

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: 540 megapixels per second

Probably, someone may ask the question of why the Panasonic Lumix GH5 does not record video in 6K resolution as well? After all, such brilliant photo modes as with a resolution of 6K-, that is, 18 megapixels at a speed of up to 30 frames per second, are available to users.

In addition, with post-focusing similar to lightfield cameras, pre-burst pre-recording and, of course, continuous shooting, now offering 10 megapixels more than before, nothing should be impossible. The assumption suggests itself that the reason lies in the high level of heat release.

The splash-proof magnesium alloy body, which weighs over 700 grams, looks very massive for a DSLM camera. But this has its advantages: a grippy "carcass" offers enough space for all sorts of "straight" buttons. Eleven buttons, of which five are function keys, provide quick access to such important settings in everyday use as ISO and exposure compensation.

Also for the first time, a Lumix-series DSLM features a small joystick that lets you conveniently navigate through all 255 AF points. Speaking of autofocus: it always works incredibly fast. Combined with burst shooting at nearly 11fps and unlimited JPEG bursts, the Panasonic Lumix GH5 should resonate even with sports photographers. The duration of the RAW-series, which is about 70 shots, also deserves attention.

Another number that can impress: 3.68 million. The OLED panel of the viewfinder consists of such a number of subpixels, and therefore there is practically no difference with optical analogues. It can be overlaid with the current settings and 21 artistic effects such as black and white or cross-processing in real time. The same applies to the swivel display, the resolution of which, with 1.6 million subpixels for a 3.2-inch diagonal, can also be considered high.

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: energy-hungry modes and displays

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5: Optional DMW-XLR1 mic interface for about 400 euros allows you to work with High-Res-Audio

Displays that are so saturated with subpixels, however, reduce battery life. A maximum of 580 shutter releases and 135 minutes of video recording are just averages. That is why we recommend including an additional battery in the list of mandatory equipment. Also, one, or better, two UHS-II-SD cards are needed for each of the two corresponding slots.

At the same time, as one card is filled, the record can automatically be “transferred” to the second card. JPEG and RAW, as well as video, can be split or automatically “driven” into Back-up. What will please, first of all, videographers: Lumix GH5 supports the practical "hot-swap" function. This allows you to replace a full card right during the video recording process, while saving will be made to another card.

Wow, now I can finally catch my breath. It turned out to be a big laudatory review about the Panasonic Lumix GH5. Are there other things to criticize besides battery life? Hardly. Rather, these will be wishes for improvement in the next generation model.

For example, HDR-video, which will allow, compared with the slightly (up to about 13 stops) improved dynamic range of the previous model, to get even higher quality recordings. NFC is most likely on the wish list of Android users. After all, there can be no perfect camera. But currently it is the best among models with a sensor size up to APS-C. However, it is already damn expensive.

Panasonic has unveiled the latest addition to the LUMIX G Micro System family, the LUMIX DMC-GF5 digital system camera. The DMC-GF5 is compact yet delivers high image quality when shooting at high ISO speeds. And, of course, the camera is fully compatible with Micro Four Thirds lenses.

What's more, the DMC-GF5 is packed with features that enhance the art of photography so easy to use that even novice photographers can use them.

The fact that the new camera is called GF5, apparently, is due to the special attitude of the Japanese to the number 4. The fact is that the number 4 in Japanese is pronounced “si”. Similarly, the hieroglyph meaning death is voiced. Therefore, companies from Japan often avoid using the four in numerical indexes. For the same reason, after the Lumix LX3, the LX5 model was released. The LUMIX DMC-GF5 is available in black, white, brown, red and gold.

The new model lacks a "hot shoe" port for connecting external flashes and accessories like a microphone and an electronic viewfinder. As practice shows, the owners of entry-level mirrorless cameras almost never use such add-ons. There is a built-in flash, it is enough for most situations, and everything else has been prudently removed for the sake of compactness. The approach is quite sensible, thanks to him Lumix GF5 is one of the most compact and lightweight system cameras. Moreover, many digital compacts, deprived of the possibility of using interchangeable optics, have even large dimensions. For example, Nikon Coolpix P7100, Canon PowerShot G12 or PowerShot G1 X. These devices are noticeably larger and heavier than Lumix GF5.

The DMC-GF5 is equipped with a new 12.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor, and Panasonic engineers have optimized both the photodiodes and the signal sensing system for minimal noise when shooting at high ISO speeds. So you can enjoy your shots even at ISO 12800.

The Venus Engine image processor has also undergone significant improvements: thanks to 3DNR (3D Noise Reduction) and MNR (Multi-process Noice Reduction) technologies, it was possible to achieve a minimum noise level in highlights and shadows.

The DMC-GF5 is equipped with a contrast autofocus system that locks on the subject for approx. in 0.09 sec, you can easily shoot fast-moving subjects. It should also be noted that contrast autofocus systems are superior to phase autofocus systems not only in speed, but also in accuracy. Focusing time measured with LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH lens. / POWER O.I.S (H-PS14042) supplied with the DMC-GF5X, the time required to shift the focus from "infinity" to "2m" was taken into account. The lens was set to wide angle.

There are no significant design differences between Lumix GF3 and GF5. There are only a few little things, which, however, together raise ergonomics to a new level. The first of these is a more convex rubberized handle with the same texture as the Lumix GX1. Together with the thumb rest on the back of the case, the handle provides an incredibly comfortable grip. Joking aside, the problem with all small cameras - that they're very easy to accidentally drop - is brilliantly solved with the GF5. Note also that the material of the front ledge is slightly different depending on the color scheme. The texture of the material is slightly different for the red and white models, but the comfort of holding remains unchanged. The second significant innovation is the Display button, which appeared on the back of the case and is responsible for selecting the mode for displaying information on the screen. Whether this is a useful innovation is difficult to say. But the very fact of the presence of an additional key, of course, should please.

Aspiring photographers will appreciate the new Scene Selection Assistant, which offers 23 photos taken by professional photographers. Simply choose the image that best suits the shooting conditions, and the camera will automatically set the optimal settings. What's more, the DMC-GF5 can advise you on which lens you should use.

The award-winning Creative Control mode has also been significantly improved, with the number of filters increased from 6 to 14. And a redesigned interface makes it easier to switch between filters, while in iA or iA Plus mode, the camera suggests filters that suit the shooting conditions.

The screen is perhaps the most pleasant innovation. Now, instead of a resolution of 460,000 pixels, a 920,000-dot LCD is used, which allows you to view the results of shooting in more detail. In addition, it has become more convenient to aim manually. With this, in principle, there were no problems before, but now it has become more comfortable. In the process of hovering, an enlarged fragment of the future frame is displayed on the screen, so it is difficult to make a mistake.

The touch screen is the same as before. Many settings are set literally in two touches. A slightly redesigned interface has made the management process a little more convenient. The only thing that I personally find difficult to put up with is the lack of a mechanical shooting mode switch. Here, presumably, the habit developed over the years of work with high-level cameras affects. There are no special changes in shooting modes. However, the support functions for beginners in the world of digital photography have been significantly expanded. It's about the story mode. It suggests choosing a photo that is as close as possible to the scene you are going to shoot for. automatic installation optimal settings. There are even hints about the optimal choice of lens. Of course, it should be noted that this approach is gradually becoming a new trend - something similar was once implemented by Sony in the NEX line. True, there tips were mainly aimed at explaining the purpose of the main settings.

The DMC-GF5 supports 1920×1080 pixel (50i/PAL) movie shooting in AVCHD format (maximum continuous movie shooting time in AVCHD format is 29 min 59 sec, file size cannot exceed 4 GB), which not only features efficient compression, but also widely supported by various audio and video equipment. There is a dedicated button on the body of the camera that allows you to instantly start shooting video right from the photo mode. And Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator technology delivers high quality sound recording.

ISO test comparison between Panasonic Lumix GF3 and Panasonic Lumix GF5. An Olympus Zuiko Digital 9-18mm f/4-5.6 ED lens was used.

Conclusions:

Despite the fact that there are not so many innovations in the Lumix GF5, they all came in handy. The screen with increased resolution is perhaps the most long-awaited of them. The case design has not undergone significant changes, but thanks to new form The handle of the camera has become more grippy - you can shoot on the go and not be afraid to accidentally drop it.

If you are planning to buy a mirrorless camera instead compact camera or even considering it as the first camera, we advise you to carefully look at the new Lumix GF5.
