We will describe in detail how the TV connects to the Internet using standard settings and various technologies, namely: WPS, One Foot Connection and others. Products of specific manufacturers will be considered for clarity.

How to find out if the TV supports Wi-Fi technology

Not all TVs are equipped with a Wi-Fi module. The technical manual for the product will help you to make sure that it is available. Find the specifications section and look for the word Wi-Fi. We also recommend that you find your model on the Internet (for example, in some online store). As a rule, on the product page in a user-friendly form they write about all the important characteristics.

Connection and setup procedure

If your TV is equipped with the necessary module, it's time to learn how to connect your TV to Wi-Fi. Usually the procedure for almost all TVs is identical, but with the exception of some nuances regarding menu items and features operating system specific device.

You must have in your apartment or house wireless router whose signal reaches the TV. You can easily check this with your smartphone. If it catches your access point without any problems, start connecting. Otherwise, naturally, it will be necessary to either move the router closer, or think about signal amplification.

Samsung

If your device from Samsung supports Smart TV (there is a wireless module), then it can be connected "over the air" to the Internet. The router must be running while connected. The process is carried out in several steps:

At the same point, if necessary, you can connect via WPS, which will be discussed later. Now through TV you can use the Internet.

LG

LG is one of the largest manufacturers, so many users are interested in how the Internet is connected to the LG TV. The connection is made in a similar way from the previous subsection:

  1. Turn on the router and TV.
  2. Go to the network settings of the TV on the tab “Network settings: wireless”, press the “OK” button;
  3. Next, three connection methods will appear on the screen. Choose the one you need:
    • "Setting from the list of access points". Use it if you know the name and password of the Wi-Fi network
    • “Easy Setup” is used to connect the device to the router via WPS
    • “Network setup (Ad-hoc)”. The method connects the TV to a PC without access to the global Internet. Used to set up the local network.

At the end, a message about successful connection will appear. Now you can use all the services that require the Internet.

Android TV

On models from Sony and Phillips, the smart TV system is built on Android TV. You can connect the device using Android TV using the following instructions (made for an example based on the Philips TV):

For Sony TVs and similar models, follow these instructions. The menu items have the same name.

Technologies WPS, One Foot Connection, Plug & Access

For the convenience of users, manufacturers have developed a number of technologies that allow you to connect a TV without entering the name and password of the network. However, your TV must support it, which you can find in the product specification.

WPS allows you to connect your device to the network in a couple of seconds. The router must also support this technology. To activate WPS, press the corresponding button on the router and hold for 10 seconds. The router's LED should light up. After that, press the button on the TV or select the appropriate item in the device menu. The TV will automatically connect to the network.

One Foot Connection connects Samsung TVs and modems. To do this, you need to activate the function in the TV menu. This is the easiest and most convenient method, but it is available only to owners of Samsung equipment.

A popular technology is Plug & Access. The essence of this method is to use a blank flash drive, which is first inserted into the USB port of the router, and then directly into the TV. The connection will happen in a few seconds. However, not every modem has a USB output.

Possible problems and solutions

Users may experience connectivity issues. The source can be both the TV itself and the router. We recommend taking a number of actions to eliminate them:

  • Restart your TV and router.
  • Reset your router to factory settings. Make sure DHCP is working properly.
  • Reset Smart Hub (if your TV has one).
  • Try updating the TV's firmware (in the software update section).

Connecting via Wi-Fi adapter

For devices that do not have a Wi-Fi module in their design, you can purchase a separate Wi-Fi adapter. It looks like a flash drive, while it is installed in the USB or HDMI socket on the TV. After that, you can follow the previous instructions to search for your network, and then connect. Be careful, as some models only work with branded Wi-Fi adapters. The use of third party products will not be possible.

Connecting via a router as an adapter

Most routers have several operating modes, including the "adapter" mode. If you have such a router, you can connect your TV via Wi-Fi to the Internet. Follow these steps:

  1. Set the router to adapter mode. The router must receive Internet from the main Wi-Fi network and transmit it to the TV.
  2. Connect your TV to the router via a network cable.
  3. Check functionality. This type of connection will be considered wired.

Allows you to comfortably view videos and photos, play computer games or just surf the internet. Therefore, many users connect a laptop to a TV. This can be done with a dedicated HDMI cable. Then the screen of the TV device will become like a second monitor to project the image from the laptop. But it's much easier to connect a laptop to a TV via wifi. There will be no need to place equipment as close to each other as possible or connect and hide wires. So today we will tell you about how different ways connect laptop to tv via wifi.

Most modern TV devices are equipped with a feature that allows you to access interactive content. Due to which you can easily display on the TV screen a wide variety of information from the Internet - movies, videos, music, games, blogs, etc. This technology is called smart.

The most common and advanced platforms are Samsung Smart TV and LG Smart TV. Other manufacturers are also actively implementing this technology - Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Thomson, etc.

So we will connect such a TV with Smart TV to a laptop. This is done as follows:

If you have configured everything correctly, then you can launch movies in two clicks. Just "highlight" any video file on the laptop, click on it with the auxiliary mouse button and select the "Play to ..." item. In the list that opens, you just need to click on your TV model. For example, Sony Bravia KDL-42W817B. After that, the broadcast on the big screen will start automatically.

For reference! Videos in MKV format will most likely not be played with this connection. Therefore, choose files with the AVI extension.

Connect TV to laptop using WiDi

First of all, this method is good because it does not require any "sharing" of folders and sharing settings. WiDi technology uses the Wi-Fi standard and simply duplicates the picture from the laptop to the screen of the TV device. True, there are a couple of nuances. You can organize the connection in this way only if the laptop:

  • Assembled on the basis of the third generation Intel processor;
  • Equipped with Intel Wi-Fi module;
  • Integrated Intel graphics;
  • OS - Windows 7, 8, 10.

In some cases, you may also need to install the Intel Wireless Display software. As for the TV itself, it must support Miracast (WiDI) technology. Most modern models that have been produced since 2012-2013 have this feature by default.

The WiDi connection procedure itself includes several steps:

It also happens that you did everything as described above, but the TV does not see the laptop. Then open the Charms-panel on the laptop, click the "Devices" tab. Then select "Projector" and add your wireless screen. We also update Wi-Fi drivers.

We connect the TV to the laptop through special software

You can also connect two devices via wifi to display an image using various programs. Today, there is a lot of all kinds of software for playing content on a TV without using wires. Although the most popular are:

  • Samsung Share (has a simplified interface, but is mostly compatible only with Samsung devices);
  • share manager.

And of all these programs, the home media server is the most stable application in operation. In addition, it is suitable for almost all TV models from different manufacturers. Using the example of a home media server, we will tell you how to display an image from a laptop on a TV:

  1. We download the distribution kit for free from the official website of the developer - http://www.homemediaserver.ru
  2. Install the program on the laptop.
  3. Let's launch it. A table will appear listing the various devices. In this list, you need to select the one to which the content will be transmitted. That is, we look for and click on your TV model. Click the "Next" button.
  4. The program will offer to share certain folders. By default, these are "Video", "Music", "Pictures". However, you can manually specify other folders where you store your movies or photos so that you can then watch them on the TV screen. Just click on the right button "Add" with a big green plus.
  5. Then we confirm the scanning procedure. Click "OK" and "Finish".

Now the various content that you have specified in the home media server program will be displayed on the big screen of the TV.

Other similar applications work on the same principle. So there shouldn't be any difficulty in using them. So you learned how to connect a laptop to a TV via a wireless wifi network using special software.

What to do if there is no wifi module on the TV?

Bes wired connection with a laptop via Wi-Fi is impossible if there is no special module. For example, it is not available on older TV devices that were released more than 5 years ago. Naturally, without a cable, a laptop cannot be connected to such a TV. How to be? You will have to use additional devices.

For example, an adapter can help expand the capabilities of a TV. Usually it is inserted into the HDMI port. What similar gadgets can we recommend? It:

  • Google Chromecast;
  • Android Mini PC
  • Compute Stick;
  • Miracast adapter.

All of the adapters listed above will allow you to establish a wireless connection and transfer the image from your laptop to your TV.

Nowadays, there are a large number of various Samsung, Sony, Toshiba TVs on sale, which are equipped with various functionality that the consumer had not even dreamed of before. For example, many TVs today have a built-in Wi-Fi module that allows people to expand the functionality of their simple TV. TVs with Wi-Fi are the most unique devices that can easily be "retrained" into real entertainment centers. With the help of a wireless network, it will no longer be necessary to think that you need to install antennas, etc., this will make people's lives: convenient, calm, comfortable.

TV wireless

AT shopping malls different TV models are offered, where there is built-in Wi-Fi, so that each person can choose what they need and go online. For example, you can buy a Samsung UE55ES8000 device, with which you can get not only a high-quality image, but also a large number of additional functions. So, a 55-inch device will cost from 83-132 thousand rubles.

This TV has:

  • Full HD resolution;
  • Screen refresh rate equal to 800 Hz;
  • Full 3D support;
  • Built-in Smart TV service.

In addition, the consumer will be able to use Skype, which will be possible to use with the built-in video camera. Thanks to local dimming and signature backlight Micro Dimming Ultimate, the picture is dynamic. The LGI 47LM640S 47 inch device will cost approximately 34,000-48,500 rubles. It also has Full HD resolution, but the screen refresh rate is half that, which does not prevent the picture from remaining the same high quality.

Inside the TV, you can find the XD Engine processor and built-in Smart Energy Saving Plus technology, so you can save a significant amount of energy. Where to buy a TV that connects to Wi-Fi? Shops with various modern appliances are located all over the world, and TV can also be bought through an online store.

How to connect Wi-Fi to a TV through a router

Before talking about how to connect Wi-Fi to a TV, to make the TV catch the network, it must be said that first you need to organize a home Wi-Fi group, to which, in the future, you may also connect a TV device. This can be done in different ways: through a Wi-Fi router or using a laptop as an access point.

One way or another, to access the Internet, a laptop or an external router must be connected to a local network.

Further, everything is not difficult enough. Despite a solid selection various models TVs, which are presented on domestic market, they all function on the same type of connection. So how do you connect to a TV? You can connect your TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi using a router. Everything is not difficult here. First you need to connect to the local network and configure the adapter. Once this is done, then you need to connect the TV and set it up by going to the settings.

Now let's take a closer look at how to set up a Wi-Fi connection on the TV. You need to find the item "Network" and connect wireless connection. In principle, the setup is quite simple. Receiving data from the network is automatic, since the router has a DHCP function. This means that it automatically assigns an IP address to all equipment that connects to it. To search for connections that are available, you need to go to the "Network settings" item. Then you just need to follow the prompts on the TV screen.

Then you need to select the appropriate items and at the end you will see a list of Wi-Fi networks that you can connect to, for this:

  • You need to choose your router receiver;
  • If necessary, you must enter the key;
  • Click "Next" or "Connect".

I must say that if both devices have WPS, then the network settings will be minimal, further simplifying the task for the consumer. In this case, you just need to press the appropriate button on the router. Next, in the TV connection settings, you need to select the desired item. Thanks to these manipulations, the TV will automatically start looking for suitable connections and establish a connection.

Wi-Fi receiver for TV: connect to laptop

Now it has become clear how to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi using a router. However, there are times when a router is missing. In other words, the consumer does not have an individual local network to which it would be possible to connect television. In addition, sometimes you just need to play the content that is on the PC on TV.

In this case, you should create a direct connection to a personal computer.

At the same time, if the laptop is connected to cable internet, then the TV will get a chance to access the local network. Initially, you need to make a distribution. The computer has the same wireless module as the Wi-Fi router. This means that the PC can also create hotspot functions. In order to organize such an Internet network, it is possible to use third-party programs or the tools included in the kit.

It must be said that the built-in PC software works unlike third-party applications:

  • Clearly;
  • stable;
  • Reliably.

So let's talk about how to do private group Wi-Fi using PC built-in tools. To do this, you need to open a command prompt. If Windows 8 is used, then you should press the Windows keys plus X and click on " Command line". In Windows 7, you need to press Windows plus R, in the window that appears, write CMD and press Enter. Then you need to enter - netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=My_virtual_Wi-Fi key=12345678 keyUsage=persistent.

I must say that here it is necessary to strictly observe all spaces and use all characters only in the Latin alphabet. This command will install the required driver and perform distribution. In order for the network to work, you must enter - netsh wlan start hostednetwork. Everything, the Internet network is functioning and now you just need to connect TV to it. Everything is done as mentioned above.

Connecting the TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi

Now we should talk about how to connect to a TV via a Wi-Fi connection. The fact is that innovative TVs can simply play content from a computer. However, this requires expanding necessary information. To put it another way, organize a shared access to it. This is done through special programs that make the settings minimal.

These applications include:

  • Media server;
  • Samsung Share;
  • share manager.

In addition, there are many programs, but the utilities listed above are popular because of their ease of use. You just need to put any of these programs on your laptop and run it. They automatically see video / audio / photo content, and give general access to files. First of all, in the program settings, you need to click on the device that will launch the content. You need to choose your TV. Next, you should specify the folders in which the files are located and allow the scan. Then you need to select and click on "Start" in the toolbar.

Samsung TV does not connect to Wi-Fi: reasons

It is not uncommon for some users of smart TVs (Smart TV) from the manufacturer Samsung to encounter a problem connecting to the Internet. Usually, at home, consumers use a Wi-Fi router to connect remotely to the local network.

But, the reason why Samsung TV may not connect to Wi-Fi may be:

  • Not perfect network devices;
  • Wrong setting;
  • Raw firmware.

Experts advise changing the firmware of the TV through a USB flash drive, and not directly from the company's servers via the Internet. The wizard will also help you find out why it stopped catching Wi-Fi service center. Sometimes it is difficult for an ordinary user to fix a problem. A professional will help you turn the network on or off.

Overview of TVs with Internet and Wi-Fi (video)

Having decided to purchase a TV with Wi-Fi, you need to study the connection information or use the support of the wizard. Let the technique be convenient and practical.

Attention, only TODAY!

What is Smart TV? This is the Internet on a big screen, a symbiosis of the capabilities of a television receiver, a smartphone and a computer, the provision of media content to a wide audience, family video without a disc.

The TV is connected to the Internet both by wires and without them. The basis of wireless connection technologies is Wi-Fi. Network benefits are determined by:

  • no problems with wires;
  • the ability to connect more than one client to the network without additional wiring.

How to connect a TV to Wi-Fi, what will be required for this in practice?

What you need to connect your TV to Wi-Fi

You need a device equipped with HDMI, VGA, AV, USB or RJ-45 sockets and an Internet connection. In this case, you will need a set-top box with a Wi-Fi module. Its type is determined by the type of TV port available. In the case of a USB port, you will need a flash drive - an adapter; if an RJ45 jack is used, a USB adapter is required.

Attachment requirements:

  • minimum size;
  • support for common readable file formats;
  • the presence of built-in memory;
  • expandable memory.

If a Wi-Fi module is already installed on the TV, then the task of connecting is greatly simplified, you only need to have a router with Internet access. Of course, this option is the most successful design, providing a bit rate of up to 300 Mb/s.

Connection

It is intuitively clear how to connect a TV set to Wi-Fi. Each connector is connected to its own outlet, the connectors are inserted without voltage, until they click. The network connector is connected to the corresponding socket.

The difficulty can only be in the settings.

TV setup

If you have LG equipment, go to the menu item: "Network settings", set "wireless".

Option 1. From the list of access points, select the name of the network, set a password for it, using the remote control and menu prompts, click "OK". Then you need to wait for the results of the check, proceed further according to the suggestions from the screen. As a result, a message about connecting to the network will be displayed on the screen and the signal strength icon will appear.

Option 2. Suitable for a router equipped with a WPS (secure setting) button. The corresponding item in the settings menu is selected. On the router, press and hold the WPS button for about 15 seconds, and the setup happens automatically.

Option 3. Select the "Ad-hoc network" settings item to connect the machine directly to a computer if Internet access is not required.

If your TV manufacturer is Samsung, then the first two connection options are completely the same, two new methods appear: "One Foot Connection" and "Plug & Access". Selecting the “One Foot Connection” setup mode does not require additional costs, but only installing the router near the TV and pressing the “Next” button.

In accordance with the “Plug & Access” technique (should be provided by the router), the USB flash drive is inserted into the router, you should wait for the indicator to stop flashing, pull it out and insert it into the Smart TV. The connection is established automatically.

How to connect a TV to Wi-Fi is now not difficult. This setting, like other television functions, is carried out by the remote control through the menu. By choosing the right connection, you can use all available resources.

Have you already connected your TV to Wi-Fi? Share your experience in

If you look now at the TVs that are on the market, then most of them support the Smart TV function. LG has webOS, Samsung has its own Smart system, Philips and Sony work on Android TV. There are of course other manufacturers, but they are less popular. What I mean is that Smart TVs themselves are primarily an additional source of income for manufacturers (due to the sale of additional accessories) and a good marketing move.

For the user, too, there are cool chips. You can go online, watch videos on YouTube, read the news, watch the weather, etc. But here you still need to calculate what is more profitable: buy a TV without Smart TV and a set-top box for it, or overpay for Smart functions. Since a regular Android box can make your TV more SMART than the built-in system. But today is not about that.

Of all the TVs that have Smart TV features, many models come without a built-in Wi-Fi receiver. True, in 2017, almost all models already have a built-in receiver. And if you don’t connect the Internet to the TV, then all these Smart functions in it are simply useless. Yes, all models definitely have a LAN port that allows you to connect the Internet via cable. But agree, it is very inconvenient. You need to run a network cable from the router to the TV.

And all these Smart TVs that do not have a Wi-Fi module are another cunning plan of manufacturers. After all, you could insert this wireless module, and make the TV a couple of dollars more expensive. What for? If we can then sell branded Wi-Fi adapters for 100 dollars 🙂 Yes, even now these branded Wi-Fi adapters for Samsung, LG, Philips TVs are very difficult to find. They are simply not for sale. And there are TVs, and their users want to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

If you have a Smart TV TV without built-in Wi-Fi, and you want to connect it to the Internet via a wireless network, then there are the following options:

  • First, I advise you to look at the characteristics of your TV on the official website. Perhaps your TV still has Wi-Fi, and it can be connected to a wireless network. It may come in handy:, and a separate one. If there is no built-in receiver, then you can search and buy a branded, external USB adapter.
  • The second way is to buy a regular Wi-Fi adapter from D-Link, TP-Link, etc., and its firmware to work with a TV. To be honest, I can’t even imagine how all this is stitched and works there, but I saw such information on the Internet. This is a way for those who are not looking for easy ways.
  • Well, the third option, which I will discuss in more detail later in the article, is to buy a regular, inexpensive Wi-Fi router or repeater and configure it as an adapter for a TV without Wi-Fi.

Let's look at the third option in more detail.

Wi-Fi adapter from a router for Smart TV TV without built-in Wi-Fi module

Everything is very simple. Almost all modern routers can operate in different modes: amplifier (repeater), access point, adapter, wireless bridge. I wrote more about this in the article:. This scheme works like this:

  • We buy a router. Perhaps you have some old one. Maybe even an inexpensive one. Totolink and Netis have good and budget options. Other manufacturers will do as well.
  • Set it up in adapter mode. If there is such a mode, then the router will receive Internet from your main Wi-Fi network and transmit it to the TV via a network cable. The bridge mode, or network amplifier, is also suitable. True, in this case, the router will further strengthen your wireless network.
  • We connect our Smart TV TV with a router via a network cable.
  • The Internet on the TV works via Wi-Fi.

It looks something like this:

As an adapter, you can also use a regular one that has at least one LAN port. And it is available on almost all models.

What is the result: a router or repeater can be bought in almost every store. Compared to branded Wi-Fi receivers for LG, Samsung TVs, etc. And it will turn out cheaper (True, depending on which router you choose), since the price of original adapters is very high.

I wrote about setting up different operating modes on different routers in the article:. If you have a model of some other manufacturer, then you can search for setup instructions through the search on our website. Or ask in the comments.

Here is a solution for Smart TV TVs without built-in Wi-Fi. Without a doubt, the best solution is the original receiver. But since they are practically not on sale and their prices are very high, you can use such a scheme. What do you think about this? Write in the comments!

Televisions from popular manufacturers Sumsung and LG have undergone significant changes over the past few years in order to adapt to modern conditions. Now it is not just a kind of "box", but an almost full-fledged home media center with a built-in mini computer based on Android and Linux operating systems and the ability to connect to the Internet.

How to connect a Smart TV via Wi-Fi or LAN to the Internet

Access to the Internet in combination with a built-in PC provided TVs with many interesting features - using various applications, watching movies online, integrating with social networks, connecting to a home network. Such a complex of multimedia capabilities of TVs led to the creation of a separate platform - Smart TV. To use the full capabilities of Smart TVs, an Internet connection is required, which can be connected via Wi-Fi or a wired LAN connection. In this case, we will consider in detail the question of how to connect a TV to a WiFi network.

Connecting a Smart TV via Wi-Fi

First of all, to connect the TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi, the home network must have a Wi-Fi router connected to the provider's network (main router), and the TV itself must have a built-in Wi-Fi adapter. In the absence of a built-in Wi-Fi module in the TV, manufacturers produce external Wi-Fi adapters.

Proprietary Wi-Fi adapters from TV manufacturers tend to be very great cost. To save a lot of money, you can buy a regular inexpensive Wi-Fi router and connect it via LAN to the TV. In this case, connecting the TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi will come down to a simple setup of this router. In the same way, you can do if the TV does not have a built-in wifi adapter

So, we believe that the TV has built-in Wi-Fi and there is a wireless router connected to the provider's network. Before setting up a wireless Wi-Fi connection on the TV, you should check the settings of the router itself. Often the reason for an unsuccessful attempt to connect a TV via Wi-Fi is precisely the incorrect setting of the router. No special router settings are required to connect a Smart-TV TV, in addition to the standard provider settings (login / password), it is necessary that the DHCP server be enabled in the router settings.

Setting up a WiFi connection on the TV

Consider setting up a network connection using the LG Smart TV LA620V as an example. If you have a TV of another brand - Samsung, Panasonic, Philips, then you need to do everything in the same way, only the interface of the TV itself will differ slightly.
First, turn on the TV and go to the settings by pressing the Settings button on the remote control or TV.

Turn on the TV field, press the Settings button

In the TV menu, go to the network section and select a network connection

The start page for setting up and selecting the type of TV connection to the Internet opens. Click the button - "configure connection".

At this stage, the TV displays visible and available wireless networks. We need to select our home network from the list provided.

If there is a password (encryption key) for the wifi network, you must enter it. Next, press the red button on the remote control, or select OK on the virtual keyboard of the TV.

After completing all the steps correctly, the TV successfully connects to the wifi network, which he happily reports on the next screen.

One of weaknesses Connecting the TV via Wi-Fi to the Internet is possible freezes and slowdowns associated with low Wi-Fi bandwidth and a weak signal level. From my own experience, I can say that most of the time, a TV connected via Wi-Fi works quite stably, without particularly noticeable slowdowns, and in the end I'm quite happy with it.

Connecting and setting up a TV via LAN

With this connection method, we need a router with a free LAN port and the required length of a UTP cable. Also, the availability of a DHCP server enabled in the router settings remains relevant. This connection is more reliable and stable in operation, but in this case it will be necessary to lay a cable, and if the apartment has already been repaired, then this becomes problematic. There is no need to consider this TV connection to the Internet in more detail, just insert the cable into the router and select a wired connection in the TV menu. In this case, there is no need to specify a network password, and the TV automatically receives an IP address.

We know that a router is a device that provides Internet access to computers and mobile devices. So it was for a long time, but now the scope of routers has expanded. For some time now, TVs have also been connected to them. What for? We will talk about this in this article.

What is Smart TV

Smart TV is smart TV. Which is actually not television at all. it kit additional features that expand the functions of your TV:

  • A complete replacement for terrestrial television. By connecting the TV to the Internet, you can watch movies and programs at any time from any resources, of which there are many on the network.
  • You can watch videos from YouTube and social networks right on it.
  • A wireless mouse, keyboard and webcam will turn it into an analogue of a PC.

Open Facebook and Vkontakte directly from your TV! Chat on Skype on the big screen! All this is Smart TV.

Router selection

Most modern TVs are equipped with the Smart TV function. But to use its capabilities, you need to connect the TV to the Internet. And for this you need a router. Some users think that Smart TV needs some kind of special router, with additional bells and whistles, without which smart TV will not work. This is not true.

The TV connects to the network in the same way as any other device - via cable or via Wi-Fi. And he does not care how and through which devices to establish a connection with the Internet. Therefore, if you already have a router at home and you are thinking about buying a TV with the Smart TV function, no additional devices will be needed. Connect your TV to your device and enjoy.

If you do not have a router, you can buy any.

One “but” - if you use several devices at home at the same time, for example, a laptop, smartphone and TV, do not buy budget models. A budget router may not be able to handle the load and online video will slow down.

Connection

By cable

You can connect the Internet to the TV via cable directly, but this will only work if your provider does not use a PPPoE or L2TP connection. We will not consider a direct connection here, but we will immediately move on to the issue of setting up Smart TV through a router. As an example, let's take the connection of Samsung TVs with Smart TV to the Internet through a router via a LAN cable. For all models, the procedure is almost identical. For other manufacturers, the Internet connection is configured in a similar way.

To connect to the router, we need a cable. The patch cord that comes with the router is usually short and will only work if they are next to each other. A cable of the required length can be purchased at any computer store.

Wiring diagram

We plug one end of the cable into any free LAN port on the router, and connect the other end to the network connector on the TV. It's on the back and looks exactly like the network card slot on your computer.

Setting

Now on TV open the menu and look for the item "Network settings" there(on most models, the path looks like this: "Settings" - "Network" - "Open network settings"). If connected via cable, a message will appear indicating that the cable is connected. You just need to click in the "Start" submenu that opens. Everything, you can use Smart TV.

You may need to select a connection method for your TV model first. In this case, cable. And click "Next". If you are using a static IP address, you must enter it using the on-screen keyboard at this point. If your router distributes addresses automatically, the TV will immediately connect to the Internet.

By WiFi

Wireless connection has the main advantage - you do not need to entangle the apartment with a web of wires to connect several devices. If you want to use this particular method, choose a TV equipped with a Wi-Fi module. If there is none, You can purchase an external USB adapter separately. Just check if it is compatible with your TV model.

We will assume that your router is configured, the Internet is working and there are no problems connecting client devices. On the TV, we are looking for the same menu item "Network settings" as described in the cable connection. Since the cable is not connected, you will be prompted to set up the connection by clicking the "Next" button. Select the connection method "Wireless network" and wait until available wi-fi connections are found.

From this list, select your own and use the on-screen keyboard to enter the password. If you have, the TV will connect to the Internet. If you are using static IP addresses, you will have to enter the address manually.

Also available on some devices.

Through the prefix

Why such difficulties? - you ask. After all, a prefix is \u200b\u200ba superfluous device in the "TV - router - Internet" bundle. Yes that's right. But only if your TV has a built-in Smart TV function. And if you have an old model, but you want to try smart TV? Or your functionality does not suit you? After all, as a rule, budget models have a minimum set of functions, and they do not always work well.

You can turn an ordinary TV into a smart TV with the help of a Smart set-top box. The main thing is to be able to connect it. The set-top box connects to the TV via an HDMI port.. On the TV, you need to specify the HDMI port as the signal source. The TV box itself is connected to the router via cable or via Wi-Fi.

Wiring diagram

Below is a diagram in which a router with a TV set-top box is connected via an Ehternet cable. It is also possible to organize this connection via Wi-Fi.

After you have connected the set-top box to the TV, an image should appear on the screen. Set-top boxes operate under the Android operating system with a special shell optimized for TVs.

Now you can use Smart TV even if your TV does not have this feature.

Connecting a TV to a computer or phone through a router

Smart TVs or DLNA-enabled TVs can play video files from your computer's hard drive. However, for this you need to connect the TV to the computer through a router via lan cable or Wi-Fi and make some settings. We considered connecting the TV to the network in the previous paragraphs. You won't have any problems connecting your PC. Now it remains only to open access to the necessary folders on the computer. The list of media files will be displayed on the TV in the corresponding section of the menu.

With the DLNA function active, you can click on the file on your computer and select "Play on ..." (your TV model will be indicated). The video file will start playing on the TV screen.

In the same way, you can connect an Android smartphone or tablet to the TV using a router.. Both devices must be connected to the same network. You can play media files from your smartphone on your TV.

Conclusion

Finally, a small note. We looked at various ways to connect a TV to the Internet through a router. They all work, but not always equally well.

When watching movies in high quality Wi-Fi may experience lag, image quality issues, and other issues.

In this case, it is better to use a cable connection - it will provide stable data transfer.

The fact is that a few days ago I purchased a Samsung 6 series 3D Full HD UE40ES6307 LED TV with Smart TV function (Smart TV), which in without fail needed an internet connection. Why? Yes, because more than three hundred applications have already been developed for the new Smart TV function (Smart TV), such as watching movies in high quality (HD 1080p), a web browser for “surfing” the Internet, games, convenient services and training programs, news, music, photo, fitness, online shopping, etc.

I will tell you about all the advantages of the Smart TV function (Smart TV) in my review in the near future. Do not miss the release of new articles on the site - subscribe to my newsletter.

In this regard, I am opening a new section on the site called "Internet, TV", where the first article will be instructions on how to connect a TV to the Internet. Naturally, this article will focus on connecting a Samsung TV to the Internet. There is no particular difference between the models, and after reading this manual, you can connect any TV trademark to the internet.

There are 2 ways in total:

  • wireless using WiFi technology
  • wired with cable

Let's analyze each method in more detail.

How to Connect Internet to Samsung TV Using WiFi

I will connect my purchased TV to the Internet using wireless communication WiFi, because it already has a built-in WiFi module.

If your TV does not have a built-in WiFi module(see manual), then for this you need to purchase an external WiFi adapter that supports the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n communication protocol, which is connected to a free USB port on the TV.

Attention!!! For Samsung LED TVs, adapters are not suitable for all manufacturers, but only from Samsung, for example:

To connect the TV to the Internet via WiFi, we need to purchase a router or, in other words, a WiFi-enabled router. Before buying a router, be sure to consult with technical support your provider.

For example, if your Internet connection is dynamic (dynamic IP address), then the router must be with DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) support so that the TV is automatically assigned an IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS and each time it does not enter them manually.

Then we move on to the most difficult thing - this is setting up the router. Until this day, I had not come across this personally, so I carefully began to study this process according to the instructions that came with the router. Everything there was written in Russian and "understandable" language.

I spent almost a whole day studying the instructions and was about to start putting the acquired knowledge into practice, when one of my friends told me that the router is configured by our network provider and moreover, completely free of charge. I could not refuse such pleasure and safely took the router into the hands of specialists. So it will be more reliable.

We set it up in turn for about two days. After setting up on a piece of paper, I was given:

  • name (name) of the WiFi network: tss_kt
  • password (key) for WiFi access: *************

We disconnect the cable of the dedicated Internet line from the computer and connect it to the “Internet” connector of our router.

Also, do not forget to supply power to the router.

After this moment, you can start setting up the WiFi wireless connection on the TV. But first, we will set up an Internet connection on the computer.

The kit with the router includes an RJ45 patch cord cable, although it is only about 50 (cm) long.

We connect one end of the RJ45 patch cord cable to any LAN port of the router (I connected it to LAN 1), and the other end to the computer's network card.

I forgot to say that when I received the router after setting it up at the provider's office, they printed out instructions on how to set up an Internet connection on my computer.

Having done the above operations for your version of Windows, the Internet on the computer started working. And now, with a clear conscience, let's return to setting up and connecting the Internet on the TV using WiFi.

Press the "MENU" button on the Samsung TV remote control and use the buttons to select the "Network" tab from the list.

Then go to the "Network Settings" tab. This window appears.

I want to note that the navigation and tips are very convenient on the Samsung TV.

We press "Start" and the TV will give us all the available WiFi networks found.

Choosing your network tss_kt” and enter the password (key) for WiFi access received from the provider using the control panel.

The network check will start and the following message will appear on the screen:

OK it's all over Now. Our TV is connected to the internet.

If during the automatic search your WiFi network was not determined, then it's okay. Using the control panel, select "Add network" and enter the name and password (key) of the WiFi network received from the provider.

All of the above in this section can be depicted schematically:

How to connect a TV to the Internet using a cable

This method of connecting the Internet to a TV is even easier. It can be broken down into 2 ways:

  • direct connection
  • through a router (router)

1. How to connect the TV to the Internet directly (direct connection)

This method is not entirely rational, but it still needs to be said about it. Suppose that a cable of a dedicated Internet line comes into our apartment.

We connect it directly to the TV in the "LAN" connector (rear panel).

In this case, the Internet will only work on the TV. We do not need such a method, because. We use the Internet not only on the TV, but also on the yf computer, so let's move on to the second method of cable connection.

2. How to connect a TV to the Internet through a router (router)

Everything is done in the same way as when setting up a WiFi network through a router. Only in our example, an RJ45 patch cord cable to the computer was connected to the “LAN-1″ connector. Now we connect the RJ45 patch cord cable to the “LAN-2” connector and route it to the TV, which we connect to the “LAN” connector on its rear panel.

By the way, in this case, the router may not support WiFi.

Schematically, it looks like this:

After the connections are made, go to the "MENU".

Press "ENTER" and the window opens:

We press "Start". If everything is done correctly, then the following message will appear on the screen: "The connection to the wired network and the Internet is configured and ready for further use."

If during the automatic search your network was not determined, then it's okay. We go to the "MENU", select the "Network Status" item and go to the "IP Settings" tab.

In this window, we need to enter the parameters "IP Setup" and "DNS Setup" manually (take the data in technical service your provider):

  • IP address
  • Subnet mask
  • DNS server

Click "OK". If everything is done correctly, then the following message will appear on the screen: "The connection to the wired network and the Internet is configured and ready for further use."

This is where I will probably finish the article on how to connect a TV to the Internet. Choose the most convenient connection method for you. Personally, I connected the Internet to my Samsung TV using WiFi. I did not have to lay additional cables to the TV, which greatly facilitated the connection process. The speed of the Internet connection suits me perfectly, HD quality movies are loaded without problems.

It remains only to protect your purchase from and sleep peacefully.

P.S. How did you connect your TV to the internet?
