The laptop is convenient because it has a built-in wifi module and you can do without pulling cables. But sometimes something unpleasant happens - the Internet does not work on the laptop. Let's see why and what to do in this situation.

Why the Internet does not work on a laptop

There may be several reasons:

The first is that you forgot to pay for the Internet, and the provider has limited access. Need to go to Personal Area(data from him must be specified in your contract with the provider) and check the status of the account. There is a connection, but the data is transferred very slowly? Maybe your internet speed was cut off for non-payment. Some companies do this. For example, Beeline or Rostelecom.

The second is interruptions from the provider. If the account is in order and there is money, try to find out if there is a connection in principle. To do this, connect the network cable directly to the laptop and check if the Internet connection is working. Not? Check settings:

In the case when you do not have a cable connection at all (you recently changed the OS), then you need to create it. For this you need:

Did not help? Connect the cable to another laptop or PC. If the network appeared, you may have burned out Network Card.
If the Internet does not work on another laptop via a cable, call technical support provider and find out why.

The third is poor coverage. When using internet wifi with a 3G or 4G modem, or distributing it from your phone, there may be no network coverage at the point where you are and wifi does not work. For example, on the highway or outside the city. Check your mobile - is there a connection in principle. Wireless Internet on a laptop will not work with a far located tower.

Fourth - you and your laptop have gone beyond the coverage of your wifi router. For example, you are out of town in the country. The router is installed in the house, and you are trying to catch wifi in the attic, under the roof. Be prepared that the roof will shield the connection or just too much distance (in case of a weak wifi router). Try to get closer to the router. The connection may start working.

Fifth - problems with a wifi router and for this reason the Internet does not work on a laptop via wifi. Try reloading it. To do this, simply unplug its power supply, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.

The sixth - the drivers flew off. Check if everything is in order with the software. To do this, go to the device manager and check if there is a yellow exclamation mark on any network adapter. In the screenshot, circled in red where the yellow icon can appear.

If there is one, right-click and select the desired command.

Update drivers.

Seventh - the network adapter is disabled. Hover your mouse pointer over it, right click. If you see the "Enable" command, it means that it was disabled for some reason.

Check all adapters.

Eighth - the wifi settings of the router flew off. Type in the browser the address http://192.168.1.1 (it may be different - look at the router itself) and enter the username and password (most often admin / admin). In the window, check all connection settings:

  1. Connection type (taken from the contract or in technical support)
  2. Network name
  3. Encryption type (WPA2/PSK)
  4. Virtual Server Mode Activity Virtual Server Mode - DCHP
    Basically, one of these steps should help you access the network or diagnose the problem.

Once again, we list the main steps if the Internet does not work well on a laptop through a wifi router or it stops working altogether:

  1. Check the account - this is often the reason why the Internet is slow on a laptop via wifi.
  2. Reboot the wifi router - it could freeze.
  3. Check your router's wifi settings.
  4. Check the integrity of the cable and plug it into the laptop and check the connection. If it has not been created before, create it. If the connection appears, the problem is in the router or wifi drivers on the laptop. Update them.
  5. Try connecting the cable to another laptop or PC. If the connection works, your network card is disabled or it is burned out. If not, it's an ISP issue.

Have a great day!

Wireless WiFi network has come to almost every home. Sometimes it “leaves” from there: technology has an unpleasant property to fail. In the case of Wi-Fi problems, the problem is easy to fix on your own without resorting to the help of wizards. The main task is to correctly diagnose a failed network segment, and this article will tell you how to fix it.

The three main segments of a wireless network. Due to a failure in one of them, Wi-Fi does not work:

1. External problems: when the signal of the Internet provider does not reach the router (the device that "distributes" Wi-Fi).

2. Network problems: malfunctions within the router itself. The router does not distribute the Internet.

3. Internal problems: problems in a computer that cannot connect to a working WiFi networks(a typical message is an authentication error).

External Wi-Fi malfunctions

The first task when Wi-Fi is not working is to determine if the signal is coming to the router. The vast majority of such devices are equipped with LED indicators. It is necessary to find among the icons on the body of the router the icon responsible for indicating the external signal. This icon can be labeled like:

If the corresponding LED blinks or lights up steadily, it means that there is Internet, and the problem is in another segment - you can proceed to the next section of the article. None of the icons are lit? So the router stopped working. Check its power supply, connect the device to another electrical outlet.

If the indicator is off, this means that it is not receiving an external signal (at the same time, the network is fully operational, but without access to the Internet). In this case, you should turn off the router, turn it on after a few seconds, then wait 1-2 minutes for the device to fully boot up and try to "catch" the signal from the provider. It is also recommended to check the reliability of the cable connection with the router (in case mobile internet- SIM-card performance): if the physical connection is broken, then the router does not distribute the Internet.

Router problems

When an external signal is definitely “heard” on the router, but the computer cannot “catch” the Internet via a wireless network, you should check the network from another device - for example, from a smartphone / tablet, or from another PC. If mobile gadgets do not work, then the problem lies in the router (another name for the router). If the connection on another device is working, then you should proceed to the next section of the article - PC problems.

A router is essentially a small computer with its own processor, memory and a miniature operating system - firmware. From time to time it has problems - like any computer. When it was the router that stopped working, first try restarting the access point and wait a couple of minutes. Often this action is enough to resume Wi-Fi.

Fig: Entering the control panel of the router: you need to enter the address 192.168.1.1 into the browser (on some models - 192.168.0.1)

You need to login to the router control panel. To do this, in the address bar of any browser, enter the address: 192.168.1.1 (some models have a slightly different address: 192.168.0.1). You can usually find out the address of the router in the instructions for the device, and sometimes it is printed on the body of the access point. The browser will ask for a username and password (usually it is a pair of admin / admin).

By the way, if the computer requests authorization, then this means that the router just does not distribute the Internet, but the Wi-Fi itself works. If the login and password request does not appear, it means that the wireless network is completely absent. Try this: connect to the router by wire - it comes with a short network cable. One end must be inserted into the port on the computer, the other end into the port of the working router. After that, enter the address 192.168.1.1 into the browser again.

Did you get an "authentication error" message? Try to enter the password and login again: in Latin letters, without using capital letters; login and password can also be found in the instructions. When everything is entered correctly, the main page of the control panel will open.

Although the design and interface language of each manufacturer of routers are different, there are general principles for working with the control panel. We will look at solving problems with Wi-Fi using the TP-Link device as an example.

Fig: The main page of the web interface of the access point.

1. If you connected to the router via Wi-Fi

Take a look at the screenshot above. This is the main (information) page of the router. Check that all indicators have non-zero values - as in the right side of the table in the picture. If at least one of them has a value of type 0, "authentication error", "unavailable", 0.0.0.0 - this is a reason to re-check the presence of a signal from the provider and the cable connection. The router regularly distributes wi-fi, only without access to the Internet. A call to the technical support of the provider is the best solution.

2. When Wi-Fi is not working (connecting with a network cable)

Look for a section called Wireless (other names are Wi-Fi, Wireless network, etc.). In the picture, this section is marked with a green frame. Go there, find the checkbox to enable wireless communication and install it, then re-set the network name and password for authentication in it, remove possible MAC address filters.

The Advanced options section should have parameters similar to those in the figure below:

· Channel selection: automatic;

· Bandwidth (20/40 MHz);

Router operating mode: "access point" (or AP, access point);

· Mode: bgn for modern devices, or g for older PCs.

Restart your WiFi router and try to connect to the network again. Can't connect? Try changing the name (SSID) and password, play with the channel selection, choose a different bandwidth. Reboot each time after changing the next setting, if the interface requires it.

If your computer can't connect to a working Wi-Fi network

Often laptops are equipped with additional function keys to control devices: sound, touchpad, wireless adapter. Try to find the button with the Wi-Fi icon in the top row of the keyboard (F1 - F12) and press it simultaneously with the Fn key (bottom row). If the adapter does not work (was turned off by accident, or to reduce power consumption), then after pressing this combination it will work again. You can check if the adapter is turned on using the wireless icon near the Windows clock: a cross on the icon, or the absence of an icon indicates that the adapter is turned off.

When the wireless network works on other devices, but in the Windows tray the wireless network icon is crossed out with a cross (or is completely absent) - the problem with Wi-Fi lies in a particular computer, and not in the network itself. This means that only this device cannot connect, and the Wi-Fi itself is operational. If the icon is marked with a yellow-orange dot, then try clicking on it and looking for the name of your network. It was found, but when you enter the password, an authentication error pops up? The point is the wrong layout, the pressed Caps Lock key, or simply the wrong password.

In the case of a desktop PC, you must physically remove and reconnect the Wi-Fi adapter (usually a device the size of a flash drive, plugged into the USB port at the back of the case). If the adapter is built-in type (or we are talking about a laptop), try checking its performance: right-click on "My Computer" / "Computer" - "Properties" - "Device Manager".

Take a look at the "Network adapters" section: if one of them, especially the one with the word Wireless (wireless) in the name, is marked with a question mark, exclamation point, or cross, then the problem is that this device is in conflict with Windows or with another PC node. It is enough to download the latest drivers for the wireless adapter and install them again - after this operation, the computer, as a rule, sees the network again.

At the same time, an attempt to click on this control causes the message: Failed to connect to the network.

Is the adapter turned on for sure, the drivers are installed and there is no hardware conflict in the Device Manager, but the Internet did not appear on the computer? Probably a problem with networks - a software type. Check in the Network Center Windows connections”, whether the OS considers this adapter to be enabled.

Fig: Windows Network Sharing Center

On the left side of the Center, select the "Change adapter settings" section. In the next window, all Windows network adapters will appear. Take a look at the screenshot below: the wireless adapter in this case was turned off by software (grayed out). In this case, the Internet does not work solely because the adapter is turned off. To enable, just right-click and select "Enable" ("Enable" / "Enable").

Fig: Programmatically enabling the wireless adapter

Finally, sometimes Wi-Fi has network incompatibility issues. The router refuses to connect with the IPv4 protocol options that Windows offers it. You should “submit” to the router and give it the right to independently assign a network configuration. Sounds complicated, but in practice it's just one small tweak.

Fig: Reset network adapter configuration in Windows

In the Network and Control Center, you need to select the current wireless connection, find the “Properties” item in it (screenshot on the left). In the dialog box that appears, find "Internet Protocol version 4" - and select "Properties" again. A window with IP address parameters will open. It is recommended to select automatic network configurations so that the router can independently assign IP and DNS addresses (screenshot on the right). This method helps especially well if manually entered network addresses were visible in the window as in the right screenshot. This configuration is not correct, and the computer does not see the network.

Conclusion

In those rare cases when the above tips do not help, do not despair. Wi-Fi adapters and routers are reliable devices with excellent compatibility.

The reason why WiFi does not work can be curious. For example, the home network was always called Home - and worked great. But suddenly the neighbor had his own network with the same name - Home! The computer is trying to connect to new network, as if to his own - and, of course, fails, repeatedly displaying the message "authentication error" on the screen. Finally, there may be cases when the payment for the Internet was not made on time.

Non-technical incidents like this happen all the time. Armed with the knowledge from this article, you can confidently answer the question - why the Internet is not connected via Wi-Fi, and what to do about it. Good luck with your setup, and may your connection always be stable and fast!

Everything is fine, the laptop connects to Wi-Fi, but it says that without access to the Internet or the network is not recognized in Windows 10, 8 and Windows 7? A common problem and now we will analyze in detail possible options solutions. It should be noted here that the main reasons for the appearance of this situation are errors when setting up the router, a router that is not configured at all, something is wrong with the Internet provider, problems on the connected computer, laptop or other device. All this in order and consider.

The very first thing to do, even before checking all the options below, is to go to the router's web interface and see if your provider's connection is connected. If yes - most likely, something is wrong with the connected device. If not, there is a problem with the router, wire, Internet. This is not necessarily the case, but it is better to start with this.

Option 1. The Internet does not work at the provider or the router needs to be rebooted

You should pay attention to this option if everything worked with the same Wi-Fi router before. To get started, try simply unplugging the router from the outlet and plugging it back in - there is a high probability that everything will work. Wireless router- this is also a kind of computer, and therefore it can freeze and behave not quite normally.

If rebooting the router did not help, go to the router settings (how to do this is described in each router setup instruction on this site, open any one that matches your device model) and check the connection status. It is possible that the problem with the Internet is with the provider itself and you just need to wait until everything is fixed. It may also be that for some reason the router settings have been reset (this also happens), in which case it will have to be configured again.

Option 2. You haven't configured your router

Often you have to deal with the fact that a novice user has connected the wires to the router (connected correctly), launched the Internet on a desktop PC - everything works. And it connects from the phone and tablet - the sites do not open, on the laptop it says that without access to the Internet.

I explain: the fact is that the router must be initially configured, and the fact that the Internet is connected on the computer does not mean anything (after setting up the router on the computer, you do not need to start it at all, as this can lead to the problem described in this article). And the phone and laptop will connect to Wi-Fi in any case - for this you can simply plug the router into a power outlet without connecting wires, that is, this also does not mean anything.

So, if you did not set up the router or set it up according to the instructions in the box, then find the instructions for your provider and model on the Internet (for example, on this site) and set it up. If you set it up, do not start the Internet connection on the PC (if you previously launched a separate icon for Beeline, Rostelecom, Dom.ru, the Aist program or something like that).

Option 3. There is no Internet on a laptop when connected via Wi-Fi

And now about laptops. It happens that everything works on other devices, but not on a laptop. The status of the router says that the provider's connection is connected. In this case, first check the settings wireless connection on your laptop, for this use, only do all the steps for your Wi-Fi connection.

After that, especially if you have an unidentified network without access to the Internet via Wi-Fi in Windows 10, try to remove the existing Wi-Fi drivers on the laptop (those that Windows 10 most likely installed itself) and manually install the Wi-Fi driver from the laptop manufacturer's website for your model (and not through the "Update driver" in the device manager). In general, the same method is suitable for Windows 7 and 8 (8.1) - if you installed some “assemblies” and now the Internet via Wi-Fi either works, then it doesn’t, or it doesn’t work all the time.

No Internet through a Wifi router - a common case of loss of network connection for mobile devices, computers and laptops. Any router is designed to distribute the Internet for a certain number of users. You only need to connect to it wirelessly and enjoy surfing the global network. However, it happens that it becomes impossible to access the Internet, create a connection or load pages for various reasons.

This could be due to a problem with the user's device adapter or the router. There are ways to find out exactly the cause of a breakdown or error and perform a certain sequence of actions to correct it.

The so-called error, which is accompanied by the appearance of a yellow triangle and an exclamation point, can upset any Internet user. This is due to the fact that logging into the network every day has become commonplace for many, and when something does not go according to plan due to a malfunction, you immediately want to start fixing it.

Any device, both a smartphone and a laptop, may not see a certain access point, have problems connecting to the network, or the Internet may not work on the phone via Wifi, although there is a connection. When pages stop loading or it becomes impossible to connect to the router, you need to know how to fix it. And in order to figure out the steps to eliminate, you need to know all the possible types of breakdowns.

In this regard, it is customary to divide all problems into three different categories. This is done in order to make it easier to identify and eliminate the cause of the lack of Internet. Why Wi-Fi connects but does not work:

  • due to hardware failure. In a specific case, there may be a physical failure of the router or wireless adapter;
  • due to software violations in the operation of the operating system or other utilities and applications. Often there are all sorts of failures, arbitrary or involuntary changes in settings by the user, and others;
  • mixed faults. These include all sorts of malfunctions with protocols and drivers that are responsible for the correct operation of the equipment.

Note! Any of the presented problems is accompanied by the inability to gain access.

In turn, each of the described problems can have several different causes. However, if we objectively consider all possible failures and disruptions in the network, then most of the cases are associated with improper use of equipment by the user or system violations due to flaws.

As for the hardware, the most common cause in this case is physical damage caused by the owner himself, for example, the fall of the device. Even after disassembling and assembling the equipment, errors or inaccuracies in the process cannot be ruled out, which also leads to problems with access to the global network.

The reasons

There are various reasons why the internet is not working.

Network problems

The Internet may not be available, Wi Fi is connected at the same time. Often network problems manifest themselves in this way.

To make it easier to understand the cause of network problems, you need to know how the user accesses the Internet at home and what it goes through. Knowing the entire path presented, it is much easier and faster to find exactly the place where the connection was lost. In this case, it turns out that the router does not connect to the Internet, but continues to distribute access via a wireless network.

Important! In most cases, the reason for the lack of communication is a problem with the provider.

The path from the service provider to the end subscriber goes like this:

  • From the service provider's server, data is transmitted through routers, through which the whole house or plot is connected to the network;
  • After that, from these routers, the traffic passes through the wire to each of the apartments or houses;
  • At each endpoint, the subscriber himself sets the type of connection. It could be cable connection to the device or router, to distribute access to all home appliances.

The appearance of a yellow triangle, which indicates the absence of data transmission when connecting to a wireless network, indicates that a violation has occurred in a certain area. The first step is to check if the problem is related to the device you are using. To do this, you should try to connect a smartphone, tablet or other equipment to the access point. If the situation is the same, then this indicates that there is no network for all home devices.

Note! Rebooting the router often solves most problems.

If, after rebooting the distributing equipment, access to the Internet does not appear, then you need to continue using new methods. You need to do the following:

  • disconnect the wire from the router and connect it directly to the LAN input of the PC or laptop you are using. If there is still no connection, then this indicates problems with the service provider, and not with the end subscriber;
  • this means that you should contact the provider's specialists and notify them of the existence of problems with the network. You can submit a request for correction;
  • if after a while the data transfer resumed on its own, then this may indicate a malfunction in the wireless equipment. The router needs to be repaired or replaced. Sometimes it helps to check the set parameters and settings, if detected and corrected, the device may return to work. You can do this yourself or at a service center.

Software problems

Software crashes or disruptions are the most common factors for not having an Internet connection. An example is the Windows 8 operating system. There, after waking up from sleep mode, data transmission disappeared when connected to a wireless connection. In these cases, only rebooting the system helped. After a while, the developers fixed the problem by releasing an update.

Most often this happens in the absence of certain drivers or malfunctions in their functioning. You can check the drivers in the "Device Manager". You should go to the section of wireless adapters and modules and update the software for them. In cases where the OS does not display any messages about the need to install drivers or update them, you can try to remove them.

After that, restart Windows. The system will detect the absence of software and install the simplest one to maintain performance. The operation can be carried out independently.

Note! To do this, you need to go to the official websites of network adapter developers, then download and install latest versions drivers.

hardware failure

Finding out that the problem is a hardware failure, and not a software failure, can be quite easy. But you may run into certain problems. This is because the symptoms are similar. For example, it happens that data comes to a router that has several connected devices. However, one of them reports that there is a connection, but there is no access to the global network. When no connection errors have been detected on other devices, you should look for a problem in the hardware of a particular device.

Most problems with modules or adapters are due to physical damage or improper disassembly and reassembly of the hardware. In these cases, gadgets either refuse to function at all, or work with constantly occurring problems.

Checking for Internet Access

The Windows operating system has built-in tools for determining access to the global network. Connectivity is checked using the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI). The function works in two stages:

  • During a network connection, a system request is sent to http://www.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt . It is a plain text file with a single Microsoft NCSI line. If everything went well, then a text message arrives in response, which has the title 200 OK;
  • After that, the DNS functionality is checked. To do this, NCSI tries to allow the name dns.msftncsi.com to be entered into the IP address. The expected value is 131.107.255.255.

After all the procedures, the operating system considers the access to the global network to be positive. If an error occurs on one of the actions, then Windows displays a message about difficulties with the connection.

ping command

In order to check the availability of communication with the router, the presented command is used. To run it, start the command line by: menu "Start" - "Run". Enter cmd at the prompt and confirm. A window will open in which you need to enter ping "router address". After pressing "Enter", responses from the device will be displayed if it works correctly. If it does not work correctly, an inscription about the unavailability of the specified node will appear.

Restrictions when connecting to equipment in public places

Routers installed in public places often work with heavy loads. A huge number of visitors who visit cafes or other establishments want to access the network through the hotspot of this place so as not to consume mobile data.

However, when visiting public places, certain recommendations should be followed so that the user can subsequently connect without any problems. For example, it is not recommended to enable downloads through various torrent trackers. It is possible to disable the connection with the user's device and block access to certain time. This happens by adding the MAC address of the equipment to the block list. You can change the address and use the connection further, but it is still better not to start downloads.

Devices on Android

In case of mobile phones or tablets to operating system"Android" also happens when there is a connection to a wireless network, but data is not transmitted. In such cases, two solutions are possible.

Setting the correct router parameters

Important! If a certain router parameter has been changed by the user, but this has not yielded results, then it is desirable to return the original value.

To change any settings of the router, you need access to its interface. Therefore, the procedure can only be performed on home equipment.

First you need to go to the interface of the equipment. After that, find the wireless network settings section, often referred to as Wireless. You can then change the following settings:

  • set the security level to WPA2-PSK with AES encryption type. This is done in the Security settings section. You must choose a password of at least eight characters;
  • it is recommended to set exactly the region where the device is located. Set the wireless network channel to the "Auto" position with a width of 20 or 40 megahertz;
  • set the SSID connection name using only English characters;
  • install auto mode work, if some other one is selected there. If "Auto" is already set, then you can try setting n.

Note! After making any changes, you must save the settings. It is recommended that you remember all the parameters you change so that you can set everything back if this does not work.

Proxy server

In the event that the proxy is activated, the most likely scenario is that data transfer from the Internet will not take place. To disable it, you will need to open the wireless connection settings and check the "Proxy" section. It should be set to "Disabled". If the proxy is enabled, then you need to disable it.

When wifi is on, certain apps don't work

In this case, the situation is not indicative of a lack of complete data transmission. It is most often associated with technical problems with developers. These may be temporary technical issues with servers or software. You can write to the support service for advice on the timing of the issue.

Other Reasons for Not Working Wi-Fi

The wireless network may not work due to the fact that the device is not satisfied with the prescribed DNS. Experts recommend to register the address from Google (8.8.8.8).

Often incorrectly set date and time also affect network performance. It is recommended to set them correctly.

Connection without the Internet can occur for various reasons. This may be a hardware failure or the most common cause is a failure in software equipment.

Let's define a series of actions that need to be performed if a laptop, smartphone or tablet connects to Wi-Fi, but there is no connection. In particular, when connecting gadgets based on Android, the status “Connected” appears, but websites in the browser window do not load.

Users also note that in this case, the network icon is gray or white, while when the network is in good condition, it should be blue (this depends on the device model and OS version used). Often on a laptop it can write that.

First you need to make sure that other gadgets can be connected to the Wi-Fi network without problems. For example, if one Android device has a normal Internet connection, and another does not, then the problem is most likely in a particular device.

Solving problems with the Internet on a laptop

You should check the connection settings, which requires the following:

  1. Connect your laptop to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Go to the Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Select "Change adapter settings".
  4. Select "Wireless Network Connection" and click on "Properties".
  5. Find "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", click on "Properties".
  6. Make sure that “Obtain an IP address automatically”, “Obtain DNS servers automatically” is used, if not, check the boxes next to these items and click OK.
  7. Reload OS.

If the Internet does not work even after rebooting, you may need to disable Firewalls or antivirus programs, as they may block network access. Check the Internet settings on the router, they could go wrong. If the router settings are lost, or.

Solving a problem with a smartphone on Android or iPhone.

There are two ways to set up Wi-Fi on a tablet or smartphone:

  1. You need to change the channel that the network uses. That is, if it is Auto, then you need to select a static channel 6. Several different options should be applied. After saving the next changes, you must reboot the router.
  2. You can also change the network mode. If the 11bg mixed mode was previously selected, then you can change it to 11n only.
  3. In addition, you need to complete the router settings: find the Wireless tab and set the correct region.

Disabling the Windows 10 proxy server. There is another way to solve the problem with gadgets connecting to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Perhaps the reason is in the settings of the smartphone, namely, it started setting up a proxy server in manual mode. When the proxy server is disabled, Play Market programs start working and pages are loaded in the browser.

How to change proxy server settings?

Let's describe the procedure for disabling a proxy server on a smartphone using the HTC model as an example. You need to go to "Settings", select the Wi-Fi tab, click on a non-working network and hold your finger until the menu opens.

Here you should select the "Change network" item and check the box next to the "Advanced options" icon. In the "Proxy settings" section, you must set the status to "No". It is also possible that the time and date settings on the device are incorrect. They should be changed.
