Serensen Elena Valentinovna,

head department of technical, economic and agricultural literature

Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library

Periodicals (newspaper and magazine fund) are an important information resource of any library, both in terms of the relevance of the content and the speed of receipt. Being important information resource, the collection of periodicals requires constant attention from library specialists.

The department of technical, economic and agricultural literature has 80 periodicals (newspapers and magazines) on economics, technology and agriculture. Among them are both popular science and trade publications for specialists.

Periodicals, as one of the most operational components of the fund of our department, are in demand along with the book fund. The newspaper and magazine fund in the department has never been written off. The oldest edition of 1977 is the magazine - "Behind the wheel". The last delivery of periodicals in KX was at the beginning of the 2000s.

After analyzing the questionnaire, we can say that readers turn to periodicals almost every time they visit the department and find the magazines and newspapers they need. The most demanded are publications on economics, followed by technology and agriculture.

The periodicals issued by the library almost completely satisfied the needs of users. The majority of readers indicated that the source from which they received periodicals is the library, and readers receive information mainly through book exhibitions and reviews, as well as the library's website.

Of course, I would like the department to be visited not from time to time, but more often. And, of course, I believe that the accounting of periodicals in the department suffers.

Monitoring the demand for periodicals of the department

127 people took part in the monitoring (650 editions issued).

It should be noted that half of the respondents (51%) were professionals, 34% students and 15% others.

Periodicals were required for work, study and personal interest.

The fund of periodicals is one of the components of the general fund of the department and requires its popularization and promotion, effective use. In the department of technical, economic and agricultural literature, traveling exhibitions were held at the Information Days at the University of Economics “Interesting things are nearby: we read professional magazines”; Northwestern Academy public service"New Economics Journals"; Main public administration Agriculture"New journals on agricultural economics"; traveling exhibition-view at the agro-industrial academy "Journals on agriculture, received by the library in 2014".

In June, we have planned the Day of the agricultural journal "Potato Growing" at the Research Institute of Agriculture. Candidate of Agricultural Sciences of the Pskov Research Institute of Agriculture Tatyana Vasilievna Shaikova, who spoke at our Agricultural Book Day on the topic “Heroes of labor who contributed to the revival of agriculture in the Pskov region”, invited us to visit the pilot farm.

Periodicals were popularized at all outreach events. Here are some of them: "Business Book Day: Construction Industry" for students of the PPC and PSU of the Faculty of Civil Engineering; "Business Book Day: Effective Business Development" for students of PSU (3rd and 4th year) and the University of Economics (faculty of "Economics and Finance"); exhibition-view "Personnel business: work and career" (exhibition-view at the information and educational event "Personnel business: work and career" from the series "Business Book Day"). We have prepared a review-presentation "Reading economic journals".

AT current year a new section “Rediscovering” has been prepared on the website of our library to popularize periodicals from the department's fund. It will contain information about journals of previous years of publication, undeservedly forgotten and unclaimed.

The role of the periodical press in the life of society is great. Newspapers and magazines provide readers with up-to-date information about everything that is happening around, cover the most interesting events, facts, information, and answer questions that interest us.

Years pass from the time a book is written to its publication. Meanwhile, in newspapers this period of time is calculated in days, and in magazines - several months. That is why the breath of time is so palpable in periodicals.

The magazines contain up-to-date information on almost any topic. You just need to be able to catch them, passing through the sieve of your interest. With the help of periodicals, one can work on expanding cognitive interest, cultivating the best character traits.

Periodicals play an invaluable role in educating the younger generation: as a very mobile way of obtaining information, they reflect many contemporary issues young people and thereby contribute to its socialization. Children's newspapers and magazines contribute to the expansion of the cognitive interests of children, strive to form a conscious attitude to learning - the main labor activity students.

The repertoire of children's and teenage magazines is now quite interesting and diverse. Almost all children's newspaper and magazine products are beautifully illustrated and published on good paper. The younger generation often prefers a magazine to a book, as a variety of genre content and good informational material suit their tastes and interests. The same can be said about teenage periodicals.

Unfortunately, due to the constant rise in subscription costs, periodicals are becoming available to an increasingly limited circle of people. Meanwhile, libraries, to a greater or lesser extent, have a subscription to periodicals. Coming to us, the child will also meet a qualified librarian who will help him in determining the priorities of reading.

All information contained in periodicals can be conditionally divided intocurrent(or event) andbasic. The current information is devoted to specific events, teaches children and adolescents to understand the moral conflicts, evaluates them, analyzes complex situations that require a moral choice.

Basic information helps to comprehend those individual facts, phenomena that children themselves have encountered, about which they have read or heard, and generalize into worldview categories.

If the current information, as a rule, becomes outdated quickly, loses its relevance, then the basic information is of a long-term nature.

Collecting information for the reader, the children's press actively participates in the formation of political experience (internationalism, tolerance), the formation of a healthy lifestyle.

To teach children to read magazines and newspapers correctly and regularly, you should use various forms visual and mass work. Propaganda of periodicals should be prompt, i.e. information "on the topic of the day" should be brought to the reader in a short time. Efficiency is achieved by the organization of open access and a reference and bibliographic apparatus, allowing you to quickly satisfy the reader's request.

We offer exhibition titles, one way or another related to the presentation of periodicals:

“Our press is for all interests”,

“The newspaper is a window to the world where your idol lives”,

“What the printed sheet is preparing for us”,

"Country Journal",

"Postal stagecoach",

"Through the pages of fashion magazines",

“What the magazines talk about”, etc.

On the rack with periodicals can be placedposter or memo with recommendations:

"Don't read everything. Before reading, look through the titles of all articles, this will help you choose the right and interesting. Find an explanation of incomprehensible words in the dictionary; use the map, find on it those places that you read about.

The text of the memo addressed to high school students may be as follows:

2. In a newspaper (magazine) one should imagine permanent arrangement of materials, domestic and international.

3. You should start reading the newspaper with editorial. Its place is on the left or at the top of the first page. The cutting edge is the pulse of today. She will tell you about the priorities and problems of the country, science, technology, cultural life. The title of an editorial always clearly indicates its topic.

4. Further - extensive viewing of the newspaper (magazine). Its technology is similar to viewing a book, only rubrics and headings serve as a table of contents-guide. Comparing the title of an article with the heading under which it is placed, it is almost always possible to say the topic of an essay, feuilleton, reportage, information. A subheading will help clarify this topic.

5. Are you interested? – Read! Keep your attention on names of the journalist on the title or official position of the author.

6. Read materials with special attention which may be useful to you- in the classroom, in writing, in conversation.

7. There is not a single issue of the magazine that does not tell about something necessary, interesting. Must be able to see these materials, read them. Regular reading of newspapers and magazines will allow you to be a knowledgeable person who can always talk about what is happening in the world, in the country.

8. How to accustom yourself to reading periodicals? Force yourself first read at least all titles on all pages of the newspaper (magazine). Surely one or two of them will catch your attention. Read Articles under these headings. There are already one or two topics with which you are familiar. If you can continue to force yourself to follow them, then you will not only get acquainted with the opinions of others on the issue that interests you, but you will be able to form your own.

9. There is only one, indispensable condition for the development of interest in a newspaper (magazine). it sequence, regularity of reading.

Almost all forms of work with readers: individual and group conversations, reviews, exhibitions - should include the recommendation of articles from magazines and newspapers. It is useful to keep folders of newspaper and magazine clippings, where to place important, relevant material. Thematic folders often become unique aids for readers in studying, for example, the history of their native land.

I. You need to answer questions about magazines and newspapers at the exhibition in the library. You can use questions relating to periodicals in general. For example:

·Permanent section in a newspaper or magazine (rubric).

Who is responsible for correcting grammatical errors? (corrector)

What do the numbers on the cover of the magazine mean? (Journal number and year of publication)

He is the head of the publishing house. Organizes author's materials (editor).

· From it begins acquaintance with the text, located in the center, printed in large letters (title).

II. Make a layout of your own magazine, come up with a name and content. In this task, the children can show their creativity and imagination.

Week of magazine discoveries for youth "Planet periodicals" may include activities:

Press hour "Kingdom of beauty",

Round table "The press of our region",

· Press scales "Periodicals: for and against".

Approximate program of the Day of Youth Periodicals "Journal Assortment":

Exhibition of periodicals "ZhurnaLAND",

Blitz-poll "My favorite magazine".

The "prize fund" in such events can be posters from the same magazines.

One of the tasks in any event devoted to periodicals can be the compilationplayful "Dictionary of new journal terms":

* Journalists - young correspondents;

* Journal people - people working in the journal;

Day of periodicals. At the lesson of information literacy, children should be introduced to such concepts as "periodicals", "newspaper", "magazine", "heading", "correspondent", "junkor", teach the skills of working with newspapers and magazines. Then you can hold a KVN with tasks from the heroes of magazines: solve crossword puzzles, guess riddles, answer quiz questions.

Working with newspapers and magazines is a kind of laboratory of creative ideas and creative thoughts. Thanks to this, the reader will be able not only to learn a lot, but also to express and show himself. On the basis of periodicals for children and adolescents, it is possible to conductmany interesting events:

Press tour of magazines about animals "Zoological Vernissage",

Library and bibliographic classes: “My friends are magazines”, “Kaleidoscope of events, stories and discoveries”, “This many-sided world of information”, and many others.

Librarians themselves may use newspapers and magazines as methodological material: many publications can not even be processed and used in scripts or to make quizzes. But there is one rule to follow: children must be surprised. This ability is one of the main and necessary for a person. And the quiz is not just questions and answers, it is a discovery. And it doesn't really matter whether the children know the answer to the difficult question or not. They will think, offer options, look for answers in books and encyclopedias, and for us, librarians, this is the most important thing: to awaken children's interest in reading and creativity.

In conclusion, I would like to say that by deploying work with periodicals, librarians assist readers in satisfying their requests, shaping artistic taste and culture of reading. It is equally important to increase the authority of the library, increase the reader's demand for periodicals and, as a result, the emergence of interest in other printed products, the influx of readers to the library.

4.12. Work with periodicals
Today, a huge amount of printed matter is being produced, and it is very important for a child reader to be able to navigate the flow of information. The task of the librarian is to try to acquaint the reader with the possible a large number periodicals addressed to children, teach how to use them, pay attention to the best publications. It is very important that from childhood a child treats periodicals with interest. Periodicals provide children with extensive information on various branches of knowledge, assist in the study school curriculum expand their knowledge of the world around them.

Various forms and methods of working with periodicals, both traditional and innovative, help to teach young readers to use the reference apparatus of the publication, to find material on a topic of interest. Libraries that receive periodicals actively use them in their work. Children's libraries of the region successfully use such forms of work with periodicals as educational games, magazine presentations, reviews of the content of magazines, library lessons, etc.

One of the characteristic features of the formation of the fund of children's libraries was the expansion of the range of periodicals. Often, with the help of periodicals, references are made, mass events are held, articles from periodicals are painted in various databases and file cabinets.

Conducting a sociological study on the reading of children, librarians will certainly find out the issue of reading periodicals. As can be seen from the analysis of forms, questionnaires, and oral surveys, young readers are willing to turn to newspaper and magazine products.

But not only within the walls of the library is acquaintance with magazines and newspapers. In the children's library. VK Petonov, Osinsky district, librarians actively cooperate with the social rehabilitation center, conduct reviews of interesting children's magazines; the librarian of the Lakha rural library brings magazines to the homes of disabled children.

Employees of the Children's Hospital of the Ziminsky City CBS continued to work with children with disabilities under the "Complicity in Fate" project. During the year, the Periodicals at Home service made it possible to receive basic library services those who are unable to visit the library in person due to health reasons. The librarians Lugovsky, Mamsko-Chuysky district, cooperate with a rehabilitation center for minors, introduce children to magazines, and read interesting articles.

In order to form the information and reading culture of children in the libraries of the region, library lessons are held to promote periodicals: “Through the pages of newspapers and magazines”, “No matter how many books you read, there is no newer than a magazine » (library No. 21 of the Central Library Library of Irkutsk); "News of the magazine world", "Why magazines" (library No. 37, children's department); "Journey through periodicals" (DB Slyudyansky district); "Journey to the Country of Journalism", "Journal Kaleidoscope" (TsDB), What does the postman bring? (libraries of the village of Uk, Atagay, Kostino); "Planet Periodica", "Magazine carousel" (Alzamay, Nizhneudinsky district); “Jokes, there were, fables: all magazine pages” (Tyretskaya rural library); "Journey to the Country of Journalism" (Semenovskaya Rural Library of the Central Library Library of the Zalarinsky District).

Due to the lack of new periodicals, the Bolshezaimskaya rural library held a library lesson “Following the pages of magazines of past years”.

In a day Russian press in the Verkhne-Martynovsky library of the Kazachinsko-Lensky district, the event "Empire of Journals" was held at a good organizational level, at which the children got acquainted with the magazines "Klepa", "Domovenok", "Murzilka", "Sibiryachok" and other publications. In the Katanga CLS for children from a correctional school, library lessons are held with game elements "Journal Kaleidoscope".

It is interesting to review the children's magazines "Filya", "Fidget", "Funny Lessons", "Misha", "Toshka and Company", "Tom and Jerry" in the children's library of the Slyudyansky district. In the Central House of Children Usolye-Sibirskoe review "Journal kaleidoscope » helps children navigate the variety of magazines received by the library. “Journal nooks and crannies” – this was the title of the review of the magazines “Young Pathfinder”, “Erudite”, “Miracles and Adventures”, “Svirel”, “I'm 15”, “Juliet”, “Marusya” in the Central Library Service of the Nizhneudinsky District. After the review, 32 copies were issued. magazines. In the Cheremkhovo CLS, librarians successfully conduct surveys, conversations, quizzes, the answers to which the children found in magazines. This form of work arouses children's interest in learning, helps to expand their horizons.

In library No. 4 of the Ziminsky city central library, the event “A wonderful magazine somehow fell into my hands” was creatively held, in the children's library - “Learn and be surprised”.

The purpose of the day of periodicals "Discovering the riches of the journal kingdom", held in the Central Library of Nizhneudinsk, was to acquaint readers with the range of journals subscribed by the library, to cultivate a culture of reading periodicals. The program of the day was made up of a conversation game « For children to know more, there are newspapers and magazines. (Grade 3), game-journey "Around the country of the Journal" (Grade 5), library lesson "Coffee table" (7th grade). The story about the best children's magazines was prepared in a theatrical form. The postman Pechkin introduced the children to periodicals.

"World interesting magazines, he is yours!" - this was the name of the day of periodicals for children in grades 5-8, which was held in the children's department of the Rodnik library. The purpose of the event was to form in children an idea of journals, their structure, periodicity of publication, circulation, etc. In order to develop the need for fifth-graders to read periodicals systematically and prepare them for their perception, the Central House of Children’s Library held a library lesson “Journal Carousel” . The purpose of the library lesson "Through the Pages of Newspapers and Magazines" is to acquaint 8th grade students with a variety of periodicals, to teach how to use materials from periodicals in the educational process.

Library No. 3 of the Ziminsky City Central Library Library held a day of periodicals "Periodicals - your friend, will help pass your leisure time!", Library No. 2 - an hour of periodicals "Heroes of Newspaper Pages".

How to attract children to the library? Librarians successfully solve this issue with the help of magazines and newspapers, organizing various public events. To attract fifth-graders to reading magazines in the Central Children's House of Nizhneudinsk, they were offered to make a "Journey to the Country of Journalism." Organized as decoration book exhibition children's magazines "The whole magazine dance" with sections "We are taught at any time of the year by wise nature", "Anything for the soul", "Read and smile".

I would also like to point out travel game "Visiting the Pencil", dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the magazine "Veselye Kartinki" (Central Children's House, Usolye-Sibirskoye).

An important role in the work with periodicals is assigned to exhibition activities. In the libraries of the city of Irkutsk, the exhibitions “What did the postman bring us?”, “Magazine Rainbow” (library No. 22) were arranged. The children's department of the Sputnik library organized for its readers an exhibition-recommendation "What did the postman bring us?", in the Bolshezaimskaya rural library, exhibitions-views "40 minutes with new magazines" (CLS of the Nizhneudinsky district) were arranged. In the Bazhir village library, the children got acquainted with new arrivals at the exhibition “What did the postman bring us?”, and in the Tyret village library of the Zalarinsky district, the exhibitions “There is such a country - a Journal”, “Read about interesting things on the planet in a magazine and newspaper” were held.

In the Central Children's House of Shelekhov, an advertising exhibition "Young Scholar - a magazine for the curious", an electronic exhibition-presentation and a quiz on the magazine "Tales" Sibiryachka", an information exhibition "Journal Empire" were organized during the year. The subscriptions to the Cheremkhovo Central Children's Library constantly update the exhibitions "Magazine Carousel", "No matter how many books you have read, there is no newer than the magazine."

During the school summer holidays in the Central Library Service of Irkutsk, the action "Summer - it's time to read!" was held, within which reviews of the periodicals "The Sun on the » . More than 130 young readers took part in the action.

During the summer holidays, in the day camp and in the “Istoki” dispensary, reviews “On a visit to the Sibiryachka” (Nizhneudinsky district) were conducted. As part of the Library under the Sun project, Svirsk librarians have created favorable conditions for reading and viewing books and magazines in the fresh air.

In the Pokosinsky rural library of the Bratsk district, during the summer holidays, competitions and exhibitions were organized for children based on the materials of the magazine “Miracles and Adventures for Children”. The program of events turned out to be interesting and rich. In issue 10 of the magazine for 2011, an article about this event was published.

2011 was an anniversary year for the magazine "Sibiryachok". In the children's library No. 6 of the city of Usolye-Sibirskoye, a literary journey through the pages of the Sibiryachok magazine was carried out. The hosts told the guys that in 1992 the only one for the whole of Siberia and the Far East began to be published. children's magazine- "Sibiryachok", offering its readers fairy tales, stories, funny riddles, comics and unexpected surprises. An interesting and informative literary and musical festival "Together with the "Sibiryachok" we will enter the world of nature" was held in the Children's House of Slyudyansky District . The Children's Book Week at the Central Children's Library in Nizhneudinsk was devoted to the Sibiryachok magazine. A quiz game aroused great interest among readers in Zalarinskaya DB « Do you know the magazine "Sibiryachok"? A big literary festival dedicated to the anniversary of the magazine took place in the Central House of Children's House of Kazachinsko-Lensky district. The design of the art room of the Family Reading Library of the Nizhneilimsk District was dedicated to the “Sibiryachka”, a competition of snow sculptures dedicated to the favorite magazine was also held there. In the libraries of Bratsk, Svirsk, Sayansk, in the DB im. VK Petonov, Osinsky district, creative meetings of young readers with the editorial board of the magazine "Sibiryachok" were held. During the year, a series of presentations of the magazine “Siberian” for Siberians”, “My friend Sibiryachok”, “Happy birthday, Sibiryachok!” took place.

Libraries of Irkutsk on the site "Journal Anniversaries" presented virtual exhibitions to the anniversaries of the magazines "Bonfire", "Murzilka", "Sibiryachok". The Central Children's House has developed a window advertising campaign "Reading Magazines". In the Central House of Children's Hospital of Nizhneudinsk, advertising lists "It's interesting" about the most interesting articles from periodicals are posted on a permanent stand in the foyer.

Librarians realize that without studying the best practices of colleagues, without improving their professional level through the study of such periodicals as "Library", "Bibliopole", "Library newspaper", "School library", "Library business", etc., it is impossible to fully provide library and information services. Unfortunately, not all libraries have the opportunity to subscribe to the press, so information and analytical reviews of periodicals are regularly held at regional seminars (Slyudyansky, Irkutsk, Chunsky districts, Cheremkhovo, Nizhneudinsk).

In conditions of financial restrictions on acquisition, the availability of periodicals in the collections is of particular importance. In this regard, the experience of children's libraries in Sayansk is interesting, which the magazine "Rodina" and "Irkutsk Land" singled out as "Monuments of the regional level", subject to long-term storage.

Working with periodicals is very important, as children's periodicals arouse children's interest in knowledge, helping to broaden their horizons. An analysis of the work of children's libraries in the region with periodicals revealed creativity librarians to their activities, the constant search for the most effective forms and methods of work, which is a prerequisite for actively attracting children and adolescents to libraries and expanding their readership. It is also important that librarians do not remain aloof from readers' interests, constantly study the motives for turning to periodicals and correct their activities in a timely manner.
